A marketing job covers a whole world of possible job positions. Some 30% of the employed persons in the world are estimated to be engaged in marketing work. Fortunately the field is so wide and those numbers are spread among many different job types. The base of marketing is wide from direct sales whose rebuttals and efforts are concentrated on influencing a consumer's choice of items to the head of the marketing department who directs an entire company's marketing work, advertising or PR and the sales force. The reality is that the scope of the marketing job is so large that most companies split these parts up. However they are all have one aim in mind, the influence the consumer's choice or perception of a product or a company or a service. Even nonprofit organizations are finding that marketing their ''name'' has great impact on public awareness of their agency and their cause.

Here are a few of the jobs in marketing that fall under the marketing job umbrella.

Advertising – Marketing Work

Advertising and the creative process and campaigns are what the general public probably thinks of first when thinking of a job in marketing. This can include campaign directors, copywriters, graphic artists, media directors, and account managers all fall under this job classification and yet all are jobs in marketing. This is an extremely wide field employing those involved not only with the creative end of advertising but the client end as well.

Communications and Public Relations

Products and companies are not the only products marketed. Public relations jobs manage how the public views the company as a whole this has a large impact on the success of a company. Public figures also are marketed and their public relations managers manage their image in both their public and private lives. Communications and public relations are not only useful when things are going well but they also are there for when a PR disaster hits, a company merger leaves investors wondering or any number of other potentially negative events. These jobs in marketing are just as involved in mitigating negative public opinion when the unexpected happens as they are polishing the image of the company when times are good.

Sales may also be considered a marketing job but those are almost always divided differently and though the sales force, and management are critical to a company’s success they are driven by other imperatives.

Education Required for a Marketing Job

The minimum required for marketing work is normally a bachelor degree. This may vary but for the most part companies prefer their candidates in this crucial area to be well educated. However the minimum will not necessarily take you to the top. An interesting fact is that more of the top CEOs in companies are drawn from the marketing departments than any other area. Advanced degrees in management, administration or marketing can take the job seeker higher in most instances than a Bachelor degree. Salaries for an entry level job in marketing will be very competitive and with talent, and strong leadership ability the sky is literally the limit. pan>

Where to Look for a Job In Marketing

Anywhere! Companies who market products, services, or digital goods all employ marketing techniques and experts. Even the not for profit agencies are seeing the value in marketing work and PR professionals to their organizations. If politics always interested you, then perhaps a political organization might be suitable they employ many PR and marketing professionals.

Specifically college recruiters are a good way to find a job with a large corporation in marketing before even graduating. Internships with marketing consulting firms are another excellent way to get a foot in the door. Entry level jobs in marketing are plentiful and the candidate who takes the time to weigh the various strengths and advancement potentials of the companies will usually come out ahead.
