Chemist

Key Role:

Operate and perform user-level maintenance on gas chromatography-based instruments that are used for chemical agent and toxic industrial compound air monitoring. Operate and perform user-level maintenance on sampling equipment for the collection of quantitative and confirmation sorbent tubes. Operate and perform user-level maintenance on a range of chemistry lab instruments, including gas chromatography-based systems, liquid chromatography-based instruments, x-ray fluorescence instruments, FTIR or Raman systems, and ion mobility spectrometry systems. Analyze sorbent tube samples daily and report results to the customer by an established reporting deadline. Analyze unknown solids, liquids, and wipes for selected target agents. Operate and perform user-level maintenance for a facility waste water dosing-monitoring system. This position requires the ability to work core hours of 4:30am-2:30pm.

Basic Qualifications:

-Experience with using gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, x-ray fluorescence, FTIR or Raman systems, and ion mobility spectrometry systems

-Knowledge of chemical agents and toxic industrial compounds

-Ability to work in a customer-facing environment under tight deadlines

-Ability to obtain a security clearance

-BS degree in Chemistry

Additional Qualifications:

-Knowledge of hazardous chemical air and ground transport requirements, the effective use of engineering controls, and chemical hygiene, including spill response

-Secret clearance
