This position is office based and provides a full range of loss prevention consulting services within a Health, Safety and Environmental consulting department.  Risk control consultants apply their math, science, and safety skills to help customers analyze and control risk. This job is best suited for detail-oriented and self-motivated individuals. Among the responsibilities of individuals in these jobs include completing on-sight and desktop casualty surveys for commercial and industrial operations, traveling to the sites of various properties, viewing web based data, scheduling appointments and collecting underwriting information among others.  Additionally, possess the ability to manage a book of business for delivery of health, safety and environmental services.

The Consultant will need to conduct extensive research, data collection and evaluation and analysis in order to make risk assessments and recommendations to control a client’s exposure to risk, loss and costs.


Conducts extensive research and data collection to identify customer's source of risk, loss and costs

Compiles facts from on-site visits and various reports and databases to assess existing processes/practices, determine severity/frequency of problems, and identify needs

Assesses and benchmarks customer's performance against internal and industry standards

Interprets and analyzes data to determine best course of action and/or solution that satisfies customer's risk management needs

Utilizes software applications and possesses knowledge in programs such as; Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and other internal systems to help find innovative and cost-effective solutions to customers risk management

Organizes data into report formats which can be presented to internal underwriters and external customers

Maintains effective partnerships with underwriting partners and external customers

Learns about customer's business in order to identify risk management objectives and needs

Exhibits effective, accurate and concise communication capabilities

Participates in training and development programs

Capable of conducting efficient public domain searches to perform desktop analysis

Provides technical support to assist with implementation of recommendations/actions plans

Counsels underwriters and customers regarding technical issues

Participates in actively acquiring and retaining profitable business by following up on leads and presenting proposals to potential customers

Able to effectively manage a book of accounts for delivery of risk management services

Actively pursues professional development efforts to better meet customer expectations


Proven ability to deal with multiple levels of an organization

Minimum 3 yrs. experience conducting insurance casualty/risk assessment surveys desired

Thorough understanding of Products Liability, Workers’ Compensation, General Liability, and Auto Liability Coverages

Experience in conducting Loss Control surveys

Strong communication, listening and writing skillsets

Ability to travel within a reasonable territory

Ability to observe business operations and evaluate management practices to determine if safety issues and hazards affecting insurance premiums are adequately controlled

Solid understanding of underwriting product lines, operations and terminology

Successful demonstration of technical skills in areas of risk assessment, risk analysis, solutions management and progress measurement

Ability to conduct extensive research, evaluation and analysis

Bachelor's degree or equivalent with coursework in mathematics and engineering plus minimum of 18 months of directly related consulting experience desired; Master's degree or designation(s) in related field preferred such as CSP, ARM or related certifications.

Must meet state regulatory compliance qualifications, where applicable.
