ACCOUNTABLE TO: Deli Manager
To assist the Deli Manager in planning and managing the Deli Department so as to promote sales and achieve profit margins and labor goals as projected. To contribute toward ensuring a positive shopping environment for customers and positive working conditions for employees.
NATURE AND SCOPE
Position requires comprehensive knowledge and experience in all aspects of the deli operation. Departmental goal setting is collaborative with Deli Manager and Store Manager. Position is responsible for assisting Deli Manager with ongoing departmental planning, execution and evaluation in order to ensure maximum sales, effective cost control and efficient utilization of labor. Position requires ability to encourage individual and group effort toward department objectives and to provide training, development and work direction in a consistent and supportive manner.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
Assists Deli Manager in all aspects of Deli Department, including:
Developing a plan for department budgeting goals and ways to achieve them.
Writes labor schedules effectively.
Determines work priorities and establishes fixed activities in order to consistently maintain adequate departmental conditions.
Assists in creation of an appealing department layout that stimulates customer flow and maximizes sales.
Plans product needs and coordinates ordering with Deli personnel.
Plans for a variety of product and integrates new and seasonal items.
Monitors mix of demand and profit items, space allocation, product movement and stock levels and schedules resets as necessary.
Supervises and checks for correct product rotation and quality.
Assists Deli Manager in ensuring efficient utilization and effectiveness of personnel by:
Effectively communicating priorities and objectives to department personnel.
Directly assigns and supervise completion of tasks.
Monitors employees to ensure a productive and positive work environment.
Monitors customer relations to ensure a positive shopping environment.
Ensures company and department policies and procedures are adhered to.
Reviews sales per man-hour and payroll reports.
Promotes deli products in a creative and aggressive manner.
Assists in the planning and coordination of product demonstration.
Practices and trains personnel in use of suggestive selling and sampling techniques.
Assists in the planning and coordination of special promotions or displays.
Accommodates special customer orders as possible.
Assists in supervision and monitoring of department sanitation and maintenance program.
Ensures all service cases and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained according to schedule.
Ensures floor and counters are cleaned regularly.
Ensures employees follow proper sanitation procedures for handling product.
Checks refrigeration equipment for proper temperature.
Collaborates with Deli Manager to achieve gross profit goals by:
Ensuring accurate inventory is achieved.
Supervises accuracy and organizes of receiving function.
Checks credit invoices and transfer slips for accuracy and retails invoices accurately and timely.
Reviews gross profit report weekly against receiving records, invoices, and other store comparisons.
Monitors accuracy of department pricing.
Supervises damage handling procedures to control shrinkage and waste.
Monitors price sensitive times in the market area weekly to ensure aggressive pricing and is able to anticipate gross profit fluctuation.
Assists in the management of loss prevention efforts for the department in order to minimize losses and to ensure safe shopping and working conditions by:
Monitoring and ensuring all department employees are properly trained in use of potentially hazardous equipment and protective devices, maintenance and sanitation standards, proper lifting techniques and other related safe work practices.
Conducts department inspections and completes Loss Prevention Inspection Checklist.
Ensures all accidents are reported immediately to Deli Manager and Store Management.
Observes department conditions for potential hazards and ensures proper attention is given to them.
Participates in store meetings.
Contributes suggestions and recommendations where possible.
Performs personnel functions for the deli.
Interviews candidates and recommends hire to Store Manager.
Conducts orientations for new employees.
Conducts employee training using Hornbacher’s training program to ensure competence in assigned tasks and to develop personnel for possible advancement.
Conducts probationary and regular performance appraisals.
Rotates personnel into all phases of department functioning.
Recommends employees for advancement or special recognition.
Recommends disciplinary action to Store Manager and administers as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
