The IT Systems Engineer will join the Information Technologies team under the direction of the IT Manager. The IT Systems Engineer I will be responsible for the design, and implementation of CBORD’s IT systems infrastructure ensuring the highest levels of availability, performance, and security. This individual will be a member of a talented team of Systems Engineers that demonstrate superb technical competency in supporting the configuration, management, and overall operational readiness of network systems. This individual will also be responsible for providing troubleshooting, and fault-finding services in an environment with multiple operating systems and configurations. The position will support the Business Applications department assisting callers with computer / network related questions. This individual will be responsible for mentoring helpdesk staff in the areas of product functionality, operation, and troubleshooting. This individual must provide feedback proactively and effectively with team members and management. Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the IT Systems Engineer include the following, and the individual may be required to perform other related duties as assigned. The IT Systems Engineer I has no management responsibilities.
Manage corporate Storage Area Network, fibre channel switching, backup system, and disaster recovery site. Proactively identify network-related issues and troubleshoot to resolution. Create and maintain accurate documentation and technical drawings of the enterprise network infrastructure. Install and configure Local Area Network or Wireless Network devices and services such as routers, switches, VPNs, and IT infrastructure servers and services to enhance the performance and security of the CBORD corporate networks. Maintains optimal network performance through proactive monitoring, analysis, and configuration; troubleshooting network problems; escalating issues to vendor if required. Secures the network by developing network access policies, monitoring, control, and evaluation; maintaining security related documentation. Participates in managing all security solutions, including firewalls, and intrusion detection systems. Collaborates with other team members, support analysts, engineers, and clients to address network and system issues. Adherence to the IT password policy, and utilization of the appropriate mechanisms to maintain the management of configurations for the network infrastructure, practice asset management, including maintenance of infrastructure component inventory and related documentation. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; optionally participating in professional organizations. Bachelor of Science Degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
Two years of experience in network and system administration. Proven working knowledge of TCP/IP and the OSI model. Experience with Storage Area Networks, iSCSI, fibre channel. Experience in (Wireless) LAN/WAN troubleshooting and maintenance. Experience with enterprise grade network switches, firewalls, and routers. Experience with one or more virtualization technologies such as VMware ESX, Xen or KVM. Proven working knowledge of network security, and best practices. Proven working knowledge of Windows Server operating systems. Proven working knowledge of Linux based systems a huge plus.
High degree of ownership in all matters within the IT infrastructure Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking, firewalls, routers, and switch protocols, VoIP/SIP, 802.1q, DNS, DHCP, BGP, OSPF, QOS, COS, IPSEC. Strong knowledge of PKI and the ability to deploy and manage security certificates. Ability to focus on details and follow through on moderately complex projects. Strong quantitative and qualitative reasoning skills, with demonstrated ability to determine event root causes, performance shortfalls and required corrective actions. Good communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team or autonomously keeping the team informed. Interpret and/or discuss information with others, which involves terminology or concepts not familiar to many people. Demonstrates a diligent and service minded attitude with strong attention to detail, and customer service. Analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under general supervision is critical. Work Environment and Physical Demands
