Job Summary:The Product Development Engineer will be based in Troy, MI but will travel 25%. The Product Development Engineer is responsible for the design, engineering, development and release of the products to meet internal and external specifications, meet the required milestones and at or below budget.We are looking for someone who demonstrates… * Intensely collaborative * Passionately focused on the customer * Disciplined executor of responsibilities * Tenacious commitment to continuous improvement * Relentless drive to winHere is a glimpse of what you’ll do… * Follow the AGM Product Development Process and APQP utilizing Teamcenter and Plex to ensure robust and timely product design and development activities * Assemble and maintain customer requirements documentation throughout the life of the projects * Ensure timing deadlines for engineering design and development activities are met for new products and changes to existing products * Lead the mechanical design activities and integration of the optical and electrical/software elements * Lead design and engineering support internally and with customer for design direction and change feasibility and analysis, brainstorm ideas and obtain approvals and to negotiate changes and deviations * Lead and conduct periodic design reviews with the appropriate internal and external resources to show design progress, ability to meet customer expectations and manufacturing feasibility * Perform necessary advanced studies, analysis and prototypes to ensure robust and feasible product design utilizing 3D models, FEA/CAE, calculations, mockups, prototype builds, etc. prior to tool kick-off or tool changes * Understand material selection and trade-offs between appearance, mass, manufacturing ease, availability , cost, strength, thermal performance, BSR performance, assembly requirements, etc. for the various materials chosen and their mating interfaces * Perform RSS/VSA studies to ensure that fit and finish requirements and manufacturing tolerances can be met utilizing QF-ENG018 or customer approved equivalent * Working with the Dimensional Engineer, develop detailed component and assembly drawings utilizing the CAD Request System to communicate the needs, details and changes to the CAD resources * Maintain and update the engineering BOM in Teamcenter. Work with the Change Management group to ensure part numbering and naming conventions are met and standard part numbers are maintained. * Release BOM and design change revisions through the ECR process. Utilize the appropriate ECR type for each change and phase of the program. Ensure the ECR is moving through the system for engineering deliverables in a timely manner. Ensure each customer change has a corresponding AGM ECN associated * Consult with the internal and external lessons learned, best practice, and design and engineering standard databases during the development process to ensure robust product design without duplicating potential errors or bad practices. Update the internal lessons learned, best practice, design and engineering standard databases for all design and development
