The Manager, Tax Asset Administration is responsible for managing the property tax planning, compliance, bill payment and audit function for PPG Industries and its U.S. subsidiaries. Because property tax expense can be a significant above-the-line cost, the position is high-profile in the SBUs The Manager Tax, Asset Administration will also manage the tax planning, compliance and audit function for all U.S. fixed assets.
Participates in transactions related to pre-construction planning, tax exemptions, site selection, restructurings, acquisitions and dispositions.
Establishes that property values are current, properly classified, fair and equitable. Initiates actions to correct improper assessments.
Assists in valuation and purchase price allocations in acquisitions and dispositions.
Supervises compliance with property reporting, property tax budgeting and bill payment requirements.
Controls audits, appeals and litigation by supervising field work, coordinating tax authority’s plant visits, retaining and managing outside consultants and appraisers as necessary and negotiating settlements that minimize PPG’s property tax liabilities.
Oversees operation of the Fixed Asset Tax System (FAD) including calculation of tax depreciation, gains and losses, 704C partnership allocations, precious metals accounting as well as Federal/State return reporting requirements.
Serves as strong technical resource to the company for federal and state income tax treatment of fixed asset matters.
Manages selected Federal planning, compliance and audit issues such as R&D and Repairs.
Resolves conflicting priorities between property tax, income tax and business requirements.
Minimum 10-12 years of corporate accounting/tax experience.
Accounting related degree required / Advanced accounting degree preferred.
Extensive knowledge of all property accounting areas of federal, state and local taxation.
Strong skills in communication and diplomacy, supervision, analysis, project management, and tax software applications.
Appraisal skills and active membership in the Tax Executives Institute and Institute for Property Taxation are pluses
Must understand and stay current with all applicable tax laws, rules, litigation and accounting issues.
