The Senior Graphic Designer role is expected to consistently produce inspired creative, manage projects, keep informed of brand developments, and develop mentoring skills. This position goes beyond the ability to deliver tactical results – it requires an enhanced level of strategic planning, critical thinking, resourcefulness and the ability to sell your creative ideas. SGDs are able to perform their responsibilities with limited supervision, while maintaining in the highest levels of quality control and adhering to all deadlines. A SGD should have no less than three years of design experience in a business environment or agency.
This level is not only focused on the aesthetics of materials, but also ideation, conceptualization and strategy. A SGD understands the business side of our work and are able to craft decisions and designs that meet client requirements.
Has a solid, working knowledge of design applications/coding languages (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, HTML)
Has a solid, working knowledge of business applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
Is accurate in their work and has the ability to quality control their own projects
Is efficient in programs and is able to produce work under tight deadlines
Takes direction well and is able to execute on other’s ideas
Understands how to pre-press items and able to build proper mechanicals
Keeps current in modern design trends and solutions
Is able to effectively design systems and layouts that maximize legibility and the communication of a message
Is comfortable and has experience designing to all product types (digital, print, large format, experiential, etc.)
Has a strong understanding of typography, photography, color, shape, balance and working within a grid system
Can work collaboratively with senior design team members and help them visually bring ideas to life
Is able to tell a story visually
Is able to carry a project from start to finish effectively and with confidence
Is a vocal and collaborative member of the design team. Is able to effectively convey concepts and rationalizations in group settings
Is adept at dealing with vendors in all capacities (bidding, negotiations, management, final output and quality control)
Is comfortable presenting to and having contact with clients
Is strategic in all their approaches and understands how their work relates to a larger system
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Bachelor of Fine Arts or Masters of Fine Arts degree preferred with a minimum of five years related experience and/or training.
CERTIFICATES and/or LICENSES
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and analytical skills. Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable and courteous service to internal clients. Ability to effectively present information.
Requires ability to do project budgets and cost estimates.
Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to solve problems involving several options in situations. Requires intermediate analytical and quantitative skills.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
Must have a solid grasp of fundamental concepts of print and web publishing and graphic design principles. Intermediate skills with web design. Strong skills in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Familiarity with Adobe Dreamweaver. Strong skills in Microsoft PowerPoint and Word Familiarity with MS Excel. Basic project management, editing and writing skills required.
