This position acts as one of the technical leads for the storage and storage area network (SAN) platforms and will be responsible for defining and delivering on the technology strategy and engineering standards for new storage and SAN technologies and features to include developing service level agreements for new services.
This position will evaluate, architect, design, build, test, and document new storage and backup infrastructure, as well as serve as a Level 3 escalation point for existing infrastructure. This position is expected to interact with internal business partners, multiple geographies and various groups within Technology and Operations (to include Operations, Technology Futures, and the Support Center). A tight integration of these teams will be critical to deliver the best practices/standards for storage and SAN technologies and service offerings.
This role must have strong communication and analytical skills, and prior experience in driving process improvements. As an expert in this space, this role is the principal voice of the Medtronic storage and SAN disciplines to our IT suppliers and is a strong advocate for improving the storage hosting and service offering experience for Medtronic’s client community.
This role should be able to mentor other team members and function as the technology lead on key infrastructure initiatives. This role is expected to participate in devising the technology strategy and engineering standards for Company’s storage and SAN offering infrastructure and have in-depth understanding and ability to apply emerging trends in storage and SAN for the Medtronic user community. Conducts research into storage and SAN technology advancements, service offerings, and hardware enhancements

Leads in the development and deployment of the technology strategy, engineering standards, methodologies, task-plans and best practices for the storage and storage area network platforms
Develops reference architectures and technology standards based on Infrastructure Building Blocks, that can be offered as services to our internal customers
Responsible for the designs, plans and leads the implementation, security and availability of Storage, Backups and SAN infrastructure, based on business requirements while adhering to tight operations, security, and procedural models
Responsible for complex provisioning, advanced maintenance, data replication, disaster recovery, data migration and documentation for our Open Systems Storage and Backup environments.
Monitors storage and SAN infrastructure for availability and reliability. Recommends improvements to enhance reliability of the storage and SAN environment
Demonstrate a high level of technical expertise to support complex Storage Backup devices, including SAN, NAS and Backup solutions across all tiers, under minimal supervision. Develops and implements solutions to a vast variety of problems of multifaceted scope and complexity.
Operate in complex, highly-secure, highly-available, operations-centric datacenter environments and interact with other technology domain experts as required, to build and maintain the Open Systems Storage and Backups solutions in those datacenter environments
Function as the Storage lead on key infrastructure projects and initiatives
Write technical design and build documentation for storage infrastructure
Develop ITIL procedures, technology strategy, engineering standards, methodologies, task-plans and best practices for Storage Engineering
Analyzes vendor products and frequently makes recommendations to purchase hardware and/or software and leads installation.
Mentor team members, enhancing the technical competency in areas of storage and storage network platforms
**Must Have: Minimum Requirements**
GED/High School Graduate
**YEARS OF EXPERIENCE**
18 years of IT experience with a GED/High School Graduate
14 years of IT experience with Associate Degree
10 years of IT experience with a Bachelors Degree
8 years of IT Experience with a Masters Degree
**SPECIALIZED SKILLS OR KNOWLEDGE:**
Experience working in NAS/SAN/Storage Administration
**Nice to Have:**
Experience working with EMC Products – VMAX, VNX, Unity, VPLEX
Experience with NetApp Storage Arrays
Experience with storage technologies and working in a highly matrixed enterprise.
Experience with Unix competencies Scripting competencies.
Ability to accurately assess when to apply the right technology, process, and people; when to leverage the vendor partners; and the relationships between the technical aspects of the above.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Diagnostic and vast problem-solving skills.
Ability to translate unique customer requirements into recommendations that fit needs.
Ability to handle multiple large complex projects and activities, deal with change, and work with a variety of personality types required.
