About Local Public Affairs
Local Public Affairs (LPA) is part of Southern California Edison’s (SCE) Government Affairs Organizational Unit. LPA is tasked with earning the active support of government and community leaders to achieve SCE’s vision of a clean energy future.
This Senior Project Manager, as a part of the policy engagement team, will lead Public Affairs engagements with OU partners and represent public affairs in the development and delivery of public affairs strategies and tactics to successfully manage external engagement on major company policy issues. This position reports to the Principal Manager of Policy Engagement and provides matrixed leadership to project/policy teams they are leading, reviews team members’ work products and plans for and resources these policy initiatives. The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the successful outcomes of influence and engagement campaigns that support the company’s clean energy policies and other key initiatives.
The Senior Project Manager will develop the strategy and oversee the execution of the engagement and influence campaigns. They may also represent Local Public Affairs on internal policy and project teams. He/she will evaluate and recommend courses of action, seek information and escalate any business risk issues as identified in ongoing campaign and engagement work. He/she will represent the company with external stakeholders to support and defend the clean energy and business policies of SCE.
Responsibilities to include:
Leads engagements with other business departments and represent public affairs in the development and delivery of public affairs strategies and tactics to advance major policy issue projects.
Develops subject matter expertise on key issues affecting the company within the scope of public affairs.
Develops strategic external outreach and engagement plans and overall project plans relative to key policy issues management; manages program and project timelines via scope, scale and budget, tracks milestone deliverables and mitigates risk accordingly; coordinates resourcing between multiple programs to ensure all deadlines are met; makes presentations to SCE managers and leaders on progress and outcomes related to projects managed.
Provides matrixed leadership to project team and reviews team members’ work products; manages, motivates and mentors team and looks for opportunities to continuously improve team capabilities by looking externally at public affairs best practices and tools; plans and forecasts resource needs based on workload capacity.
Develops and leads implementation of overall public communications/engagement strategy (scope, schedule, and budget) to achieve project objectives; oversees the development of communication materials and content (e.g. fact sheets, talking points, presentations, FAQs), and coordinates external collateral communication material with Corporate Communications.
Performs after-action reviews and post-project evaluations and assessments on issues and projects that have been undertaken by Public Affairs and other SCE departments, identifying successful and unsuccessful approaches, strategies and tactics and sharing those with the Department as part of ongoing Operational Excellence and continuous improvement efforts.
Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Government Relations, Business or related field.
Five years of experience in public relations, media relations, corporate communications, campaign development and management and/or governmental affairs
Seven to ten years of experience in public affairs/public relations some of which include managing advocacy and education plans targeting local government and community stakeholders.
Five years of campaign plan development, writing and reporting.
Five years of stakeholder engagement by tailoring and delivering advocacy and tracking results.
Five years of working on advocacy campaign teams, with a strong record of collaboration and effective information sharing.
Digital and social media monitoring and engagement experience.
Excellent written and oral communication skills with a strong attention to detail.
Critical thinker with the ability to thrive in a fast paced, collaborative environment.
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Visio.
Ability to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
Must demonstrate strong ethics, interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.
Master’s Degree in in Public Relations, Communications, Political Science, Business or related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Ten or more years of experience in public affairs/public relations designing and implementing strategic plans.
Digital and social media monitoring and engagement experience.
Thorough understanding of the key factors driving public affairs stakeholder engagement and mobilization in support of policies and projects.
