As Mattel strengthens focus on the development of digital, technologically advanced toys, there is a need for a centralized group dedicated to supporting the project teams, and this position plays a critical role in the success of this goal.
The Sr. Director of Integrated Hardware Engineering is the business leader for the organization as it relates to hardware components in Mattel's toys., Leadership Oversee the overall Integrated Hardware Engineering Services group's budget, schedules, and performance standards, and provides oversight for implementation Manage, coach, and professionally develop the Integrated Hardware Engineers, as well as the Connected Play & Electrical Engineering Leads across multiple campuses globally Define and accomplish the group's overall objectives, and management of resources Lead the initial formation of the hardware engineering group, and ensure its successful integration with the development process Hardware Development Oversee the design & development of advanced hardware components as they apply to connected play Oversee the identification & management of domestic & overseas component vendors Technology Harvest new hardware technologies that become available for toy application that give Mattel a competitive advantage. Lead and direct the evaluation of new technologies to strategically position Mattel at the leading edge for innovative toy products.
Assess current and future technologies for strategic use in Mattel's toys. Followed by protecting Mattel's IP through aggressive patent applications, and where applicable, being cognizant of potential patent infringements. 10 years hands-on experience in the design & development of consumer electronics Superior knowledge and experience in all aspects of hardware design including: Analog, digital, mixed-signal, discrete, and embedded circuit design Component selection, specification, and sourcing Hands-on model development, prototyping, and debugging Schematic and PCB layout development Superior knowledge and experience in all aspects of software development including: Embedded software design PC-based tool development Integration, test, and debug Experience with mechanical & electromechanical systems; familiarity with plastics is highly desirable Vision and perseverance to take ideas from concept through development and into production Experience in product development within the toy industry is highly preferred Project management, leadership, and multi-tasking skills as well as the ability to work with cross-functional teams Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical team members Ability to effectively pitch toy concepts to peers and upper management Experience working with China-based vendors a plus Proficiency in MS Project a plus Familiarity with any of 6502, Alpha, Sunplus, General Plus, EMC, Winbond, Nuvoton, Sonix, PIC, Atmel, Arduino or similar a must BS in Electronic Engineering is strongly preferred
