Merck & Co., Inc
Sr. Project Scientist/Engineer-CHE005571
Merck & Co., Inc. Kenilworth, N.J., U.S.A. known as Merck in the United States and Canada, is a global health care leader with a diversified portfolio of prescription medicines, vaccines and animal health products. The difference between potential and achievement lies in the spark that fuels innovation and inventiveness; this is the space where Merck has codified its legacy for over a century. Merck's success is backed by ethical integrity, forward momentum, and an inspiring mission to achieve new milestones in global healthcare.
Merck Manufacturing Division, MMD, is a team of dedicated, energetic individuals who are committed to being the most trusted supplier of pharmaceuticals and health products worldwide. Our facilities, along with our external contractors, suppliers, and partners, comprise an interdependent global manufacturing network that's committed to delivering a compliant, reliable supply to customers and patients on time, every time, across the globe.
The Center for Materials Science & Engineering (CMSE) is seeking a Senior Project Scientist/Engineer who, as an individual contributor, will apply engineering science, materials science and related (bio)-physical-chemistry to support Merck's global manufacturing. Projects typically involve technical investigation or risk assessment (for strategic changes) for our manufactured human-health pharmaceutical and bio-sterile products. There is also potential to support late-stage product development.
The Senior Project Scientist/Engineer represents the CMSE on global project teams that often include representatives from Operations, Quality, and partner central groups, such as Analytical Sciences, Commercialization or Formulation Sciences.
He/she is both a technical leader and effective collaborator who provides consulting, laboratory analyses of materials (input, intermediate, final product, packaging and process), and scaled-down process experimentation. The CMSE lab includes state-of-the-art imaging, structural, spectroscopic (chemical/physical), mechanical and other techniques, for complex fluids, powders, surfaces, and functional solids /devices. The Senior Project Scientist/Engineer aims to understand the relationship between material structure, function and processing across a very wide range of product formulation and process scenarios, however, he/she also seeks deep, niche expertise and technology development (for specific material/formulation areas, unit operations, characterization, and/or modeling approaches) in order to strengthen the CMSE, which is an interdisciplinary mix of engineers, materials scientists, physicists, and chemists. Strength in problem solving, applied experimental research and communication skills is valuable.
