Technical Business Specialist I

Summary:

The Technical Business Specialist provides technical expertise to internal and external customers in a variety of forms that include design assistance, delivering education, and enabling the customer to do business with ScanSource. The focus of a Technical Business Specialist may be on specified technologies, or on a specific group of customers. This role is expected to be an expert in their focus area, and will act as a trusted advisor to its customers. They will represent both ScanSource and the brands within their focus in their communication. In addition to traditional purchasing customers, the Technical Business Specialist interfaces with technology vendors within the business unit and within other business units in order to gain the expertise to support their customers. This individual is the primary technical point person for all areas of their expertise.

Essential Job Duties:

Provides a primary point of contact for internal sales reps and external customers for technical questions related to products sold within the business unit

Provides design assistance, either in the creation of or review for accuracy of a list of products.

Consults with customers to recommend solutions

Leads discovery calls with customers to aide in the design phase of a quote

Maintains expertise in the internal and external tools required to support the customer.

Delivers knowledge transfer sessions with customers on products, or tools designed to assist in product selection

Interfaces with members of the technology vendors within their focus area to maintain their product expertise.

Provides demonstrations of hardware and/or software as needed

Attends training to update skills

Other duties as assigned

Regular attendance is an essential function of the Technical Business Specialist position.

Reporting Relationships:

Technical Business Specialists receive supervision commensurate with knowledge, experience, and initiative. Supervision may include technical advice, coaching on interpersonal interaction, or instruction in broad policies and quality standards. The goal of supervision is to develop the Specialist to the point that he requires decreasing supervision and is able increasingly to make independent decisions.

The Technical Business Specialist has daily personal contact with co-workers and immediate management; daily phone contact with customers and vendors; occasional contact with executive management

Requirements:

Customer service experience, both in person and over the phone.

Ability to speak English plainly and to be easily understood over the phone.

Ability to understand spoken English, both technical and colloquial.

Ability to learn quickly

Preferred:

Experience with business communication products and services

Experience operating in a customer-facing role

Proficiency in a foreign language (Spanish, Portuguese, French, German)

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit at a computer terminal for long periods of time.

Ability to be physically in attendance at workstation at designated company office location during normal business hours designated for this position.

Ability to travel 5% of the time.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
