Visa and Immigration Specialist

The candidate will be responsible for working with the Director of Global Learner Engagement, the Visa and Immigration Specialist will oversee the administration of day­to­day travel documentation operations and visa support and guidance for a portfolio of Northeastern Global Experience programs, including Global Co-op, N.U. in, Dialogue of Civilizations, Study Abroad, etc. The Specialist is responsible for managing the workflow for Northeastern University student visa support including: intake, triage, research, dissemination, and follow up on visa support and guidance for programming, as well as creation of necessary supporting documentation. The Specialist researches various visa issues as they arise and maintains a documented knowledge base of up­ to­ date regulations, paying special attention to countries with particularly challenging visa requirements. The Specialist serves as a resource and an escalation support for university mobility programming. The Specialist trains and provides ongoing guidance to mobility Advisors, to ensure they are adequately prepared to support student and faculty global experiences on standard visa practices based on country and type of program, as well as identifies, troubleshoots and resolves challenging visa issues. The specialist works closely with the Co-op coordinators to vet the feasibility of new global co-op placements based on consular requirements for the job type/country. The specialist will monitor the databases through which global co-op students apply, and their job placements are stored to track student progress and ensure students’ needs and requirements are met. Strong research and customer service skills are a necessity, as well as problem solving and attention to detail.
