Staff Accountant

The candidate will work closely with the Director of Firm Accounting, Senior Staff Accountant and Payroll Coordinator to support the firm’s core accounting functions. Weekly, monthly and annual general accounting functions including balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, accounting system (3E) maintenance tasks, sales and use and property tax filings, timekeeper status change reports (including partners), PAC reporting, budget compilation and analysis and support for the annual firm insurance renewal process. Serve an integral role in the operational efficiency of the department, supporting initiatives of process improvement, collaboration with other operational teams and back up responsibilities for payroll. Reconcile general ledger balance sheet accounts and create journal entries. Manage maintenance for accounting software, including timekeeper and general ledger account updates, clearing the posting queues, and assist with date controls for proper posting. Prepare monthly trust bank account reconciliations. Review, create and reverse the firm’s accrual accounts. Calculate and initiate payment of monthly sales and use taxes. Prepare and coordinate the firm’s property tax return filings with the firm’s outside tax preparer. Assist the team with the firm’s annual budget, including preparedness, analysis, and overall execution. Provide back up support as needed for responsibilities related to the firm’s fixed asset reconciliation, including the FAS software. Maintain and update documentation of accounting duties and responsibilities completed by this role. Perform subsidiary (LLC) record keeping, compliance and balancing, including some client related accounting. Assist with the compiling and organization of the firm’s annual insurance renewal processes. Assist with ad-hoc projects assigned from Accounting Chief & Directors and COO. Serve as backup to Payroll Coordinator for payroll processing and review, including compliance related to payroll, i.e., non-tax compliance issues required by the IRS. Coordinate and support the annual audit and tax compliance workpaper preparations. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in operational efficiency and provide recommendations to management. Balance and audit payroll accounts, monthly; identifying and resolving discrepancies; initiating journal entries. Manage compliance tasks related to firm charitable contribution accounts. Support HR with review, balancing, and audit support related to firm’s retirement plan and retirement reserve. Should preferably have Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration, or previous years of experience on an accounting team in a similar role. Previous experience in professional services industry is preferred.
