The candidate will be responsible for: Provides legal advice and support to department managers and other offices of the Town as requested or assigned; attends meetings; researches internal regulations, policies and procedures or relevant state and federal law; advises Town representatives of legal solutions and execution of appropriate steps and implementation; writes legal opinions and memoranda; develops strategies and solutions to ensure compliance; provides information regarding updated laws and regulations as needed. Provides legal advice and support on employment law and legal aspects of personnel and employment matters. Provides legal advice and support to Town Boards and Commissions; attends meetings and public hearings, reviews regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to the actions of the boards. Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations within designated timeframes and per established procedures; reviews various documentation, including legal and court documents, legal correspondence, contracts, FOIA requests, legislation, and budgets. Provides legal consultation, advice, training, and guidance by communicating with Town officials, attending meetings, responding to questions, and conducting legal research. Drafts and reviews contracts and agreements, reviews contracts for compliance with internal policies and procedures as well as local, state and federal laws. Coordinating with outside counsel, drafting pleadings, drafting interrogatories and requests for production and admission and responding to same, preparing affidavits, preparing motions and arguments, representing the Town in mediation proceedings, preparing for trial, representing the Town in court, preparing briefs, preparing orders, discussing results with management, preparing appeals, arguing cases in appellate court, implementing results of the legal outcomes, and representing the Town in other adjudicative settings. Preparation of legislation and ordinances by determining departments' needs, conducting research on the issues, and developing strategic approaches. Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge and awareness of applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures; maintains an awareness of new procedures, trends and advances in the profession. Must have Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school and 5+ years’ experience with demonstrated experience in municipal law; members of the South Carolina Bar.
