Associate Counsel II
Duties: Negotiates, reviews, drafts, and otherwise prepares a wide array of legal documents in connection with the furtherance of University business and operations, and related to the various colleges and their educational programs. Drafts a variety of legal agreements and prepares corporate documents. Arranges for executed documents to be entered into centralized files and electronic databases. Approves all contracts requiring legal review as to form and substance. Confers with University employees, deans, chairs, program directors, and administrators on legal matters. Completes compliance and regulatory, and research-oriented tasks by analyzing state statutes and federal legislation and administrative and court decisions; investigates legal topics; and makes accurate and relevant recommendations on matters referred by the Vice President for Legal Affairs and/or Senior Associate Counsel that involve, without limitation, educational matters pertaining to University students and personnel, colleges and programs, and the delivery of medical and healthcare services and community events. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned to advance the needs of the colleges and programs, and the University at large. Provides support as needed to the Vice President of Legal Affairs, and senior and other staff attorneys. Appropriately delegates office tasks to paralegals and work study students. Effectively and proficiently handles and accurately manages a wide range and high volume of legal work on a daily basis. Performs other duties as assigned or required work-study. Manages subordinates in the office keeping morale high. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the University's policies and applicable laws.
