**POSITION SUMMARY** :
The Melles Griot Systems Engineer is responsible for the mechanical design of opto-mechanical systems (inclusive of optics and shutter components) for Melles Griot commercial digital camera customers. These systems include Solenoid Shutters, Rotor Drive Shutters, Stepper Motor Shutters, and Shutter Controllers. The role interfaces with Melles Griot’s external customers, the internal sales team, and the internal sourcing and purchasing teams, in order to identify product specifications and to build and provide product prototypes.
**Qualifications:** **ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:** _include the following. Other duties may be assigned._
Design and develop systems which incorporate all or some of electronics, optics, and mechanical components.
+ Devise quality and reliability tests for the above systems.
+ Determine specifications for above systems in conjunction with Sales & Marketing and external customers.
+ Ability to interface with customers to determine their needs, to present options and results in a manner consistent with good business sense. Effectively be an extension of the customers engineering team.
+ Provide accurate and detailed documentation for procurement and design of components. Provide accurate test data and support design and fabrication of components.
+ Attention to detail. Demonstrate persistence in identifying the cause of unusual results.
+ Provide design support through product manufacturing.
+ Communicate with external customers. Travel approximately 25%.
+ Communicate with suppliers to assist in procurement of components.
+ Interact with internal manufacturing departments to assist with assembly of systems.
+ Project Management of programs from concept to launch.

# OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Comply with the Clean Room Protocol when entering a clean room environment.
+ Ability to operate in a multi-tasking environment and with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
+ Ability to write technical reports in concise and accurate English, and present the results orally as required.
+ Ability to work with test technicians to develop and debug test procedures
+ Hands-on laboratory skills for assembly, alignment, calibration, and evaluation of optical systems.

+ **EDUCATION/TRAINING/WORK RELATED EXPERIENCE** : Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Physics or Optical Engineering from four-year college or university; 5 or more years relevant work experience.
+ **CERTIFICATE, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS** : Membership in SPIE required
+ **LANGUAGE SKILLS** : Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customer’s regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, and public groups.
+ **MATHEMATICAL SKILLS** : Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
+ **REASONING ABILITY** : Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
