Summary:
This role will provide support and management to the lab computing (benchtop) environment within R&D. Adherence to Standard Operating Procedures, timely execution of work, and collaboration with scientists, IT colleagues, and vendors are essential to ensure maximum productivity for the bench scientist as well as to ensure the integrity of both the laboratory data collected and the systems used to collect the data. Responsibilities include:
Coordinate the refresh of benchtop systems
Participate in the installation, documentation, and testing of upgraded instruments in both regulated and non-regulated laboratories.
Deploy or update data management tools for backup and archive.
Work with BMS Laboratory Computing services team to understand the benchtop imaging process, core benchtop suite of applications and systems management tools to be utilized on all systems. (Altiris Client Management Suite, Active Directory, etc). Verify all standard tools are enabled for enabling security on the BMS network (Virusscan, Patching, etc).
Participate in and may serve as technical lead for projects in support of laboratory computing at the local site collaborating with IT Staff and clients at other sites.
Troubleshoot and assist in technical support of both instrument software installed on benchtops and connectivity between benchtop and instrument. Work closely with instrument vendors to resolve any technical issues, and with customers to ensure all expectations are being met.
Analyzes, identifies, and implements upgrades and/or solutions to improve the overall support of benchtops in a timely manner
Acts as the technical support contact for field service engineers and external vendors for on-boarding, retiring, troubleshooting client instrument and information technology issues
Supports management in the development and implementation of training initiatives for Services personnel
Document procedures, policies, troubleshooting and best practices
Create and maintain a physical inventory of lab equipment, PC’s, software and any other information pertinent to the environment
Escalates IT issues that are not resolved via regularly identified support channels.
Identifies more critical and less critical activities and tasks; adjusts priorities when appropriate.
Takes advantage of available resources (individuals, processes, departments, and tools) to complete work efficiently.
Effectively allocates own time to complete work; coordinates own and others’ schedules to avoid conflicts.
Provides excellent customer service and support for Laboratory Operations
Regularly reviews, prioritizes and promptly responds to customer support requests.
Skills/Knowledge Required:
Candidates must have significant experience with the administration, configuration, and troubleshooting of PC hardware and software in a Microsoft Windows /Active Directory environment.
Win 7 – Win 10 Operating systems platform – Troubleshooting
Microsoft Office 2013, 2016 and O365, Skype for business
McAfee antivirus/ Trend Micro
Symantec Management, BMC, Altiris or SCCM software deployment & management tool
Remote desktop / TeamViewer/ Real VNC
Knowledge of computer system validation and Good Laboratory Practices.
An understanding of laboratory science in the pharmaceutical industry and demonstrated project management skills are to the candidate’s advantage.
Relationship management skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and the ability and willingness to work both independently and as part of a team are essential to success.
Functional Knowledge Required:
Bachelors of Science in Computer Science, Life Science or equivalent industry experience
3 years of relevant technical experience including (but not limited to); Windows technologies, networking, remote computing and backup systems
Experience with virtual machine support
Experience with scientific instrumentation
