Poinciana Medical Center is a four-story, 150,000 square foot hospital with 70 private medical-surgical beds and a six-bed ICU. Poinciana Medical Center provides a full range of acute care services including emergency services, diagnostic imaging, inpatient and outpatient surgery, cardiac catheterization, laboratory, pharmacy, and a full range of support services. The Emergency Department is approximately 14,500 square feet and consists of 22 treatment spaces, an EMS entrance, and a helicopter pad.

The next program is anticipated to begin onMonday February 25, 2019, and is comprised of didactic training, high definition simulation and a clinical preceptorship. /Note: Part 1 of this residency program may require travel to an offsite training location in the Kissimmee area./

Specialty Training Apprenticeship for Registered Nurses

The StaRN program is a 16 week, PAID Nurse Residency program. It allows new graduate nurses to obtain acute care nursing experience through an intensive internship program.

Part 1: StaRN Training – First 8 Weeks:

Instructor-led classroom training

Paid training – all nurses will be paid at the new graduate RN hourly rates

State-of-the-art simulation including comprehensive debriefs

Self-directed / on-line learning

BLS/ACLS Certification

ENA Core Curriculum

CPI Certification

PALS, ENPC & TNCC Certifications

Meditech Training and Validation

/ The schedule is typically Monday-Friday, with 40 hour work weeks (8 hour days) /

Part 2: StaRN Clinical Preceptorship – Next 8 Weeks:** *

Conducted at the hospital

Paid training – all nurses will be paid at the new graduate RN hourly rates during preceptorship (union facilities may differ)

You will be assigned a preceptor specifically for you; to train you and get you acclimated to your role

Regular development meetings between the resident, their preceptor and their Director

Customized Coaching/Onboarding report for clinical preceptorship

/ The schedule is typically three (3) 12 hour shifts at the hospital /

Part 3: HCA Residency Program – Remainder of your 1styear

Upon successful completion of the StaRN Program, residents will transition to their full-time roles at the hospital

All residents pay rates will increase to the 1 year RN hourly rates (possibly higher if resident has prior clinical work experience, such as CNA, LPN, Paramedic etc)

Nurse Residents continue professional development through routine interactions with a mentor (meet at least once a month)

Attend a monthly residency seminar

Complete an evidence-based capstone project

Attend graduation

Who is eligible:

New Graduate Registered Nurse who graduated within last 12 months and have less than6 months RNexperience or may have previous LPN exp, EMT experience

Registered Nurse RN with more than one year sub-acute experience (including LTC, Rehab, or Skilled Nursing)

Registered Nurse RN with more than 1 year experience in acute care, but their experience was more than 5 years ago, left Nursing and want to come back to acute care. Must take a “Refresher” course through a college to get their basics current before consideration for StaRN.

RNs with experience outside the US (eligibility may vary by facility & experience level)

Requirements:

Current Florida RN licensure - If State/Compact license is presented must have FL ID or license and must obtain FL RN license within 90 days of hire.

Graduate froman accredited school of nursing, within past 1 year is preferred

Program acceptance requires a minimum two (2) year, full-time commitment to the hospital. If a nurse chooses to leave the facility before the 2 year commitment is fulfilled, they may be required to meet a monetary responsibility.

Self-motivated and strong communication skills required

Attendance is imperative throughout the StaRN Training program
