Executive Claims Specialist, Casualty & Professional Liability
The candidate will confirm coverage of claims by reviewing policies and documents submitted in support of claims. Will analyze coverage and communicate coverage positions. Conducts, coordinates, and directs investigation into loss facts and extent of damages. Directs and monitors assignments to experts and outside counsel. Evaluates information on coverage, liability, and damages to determine the extent of the insured's exposure. Sets reserves within the authority and/or makes claim recommendations concerning reserve changes to the manager. Negotiates and settles claims either directly or indirectly. Adheres to Fair Claims Practices regulations. Promotes the growth and development of less experienced Claims Specialists and fosters an energized work environment; leads others through change. Provides technical expertise/training to colleagues, underwriters and external resources. Reviews and approves coverage letters, reports and authority requests. Participates in large cross-departmental special projects and/or product development initiatives, including serving as a project leader where appropriate. Participates in mediations, settlement conferences, and trials; some travel is required. Provides strategic advice to underwriting and represents Markel at external panels and industry forums. Analyzes loss information for senior business stakeholders and presents information on claims and trends during monthly/quarterly business meetings. Ensures effective vendor and litigation management on claims with a focus on minimizing indemnity exposure and mitigating vendor and legal expense. Assumes managerial duties when the manager is the way/unavailable or requires assistance.
