Manager Of Compliance
Responsibilities: Serves as the liaison between BPS and the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education regarding special education reporting requirements and compliance monitoring, including state auditing, corrective action plans and complaint resolution. Collaborates with other Special Education staff to provide training and support to evaluation team facilitators (Coordinators of Special Education “COSE”), related service providers and teachers regarding special education regulatory requirements and best practices. Supervises, evaluates and coordinates the activities of all professional and clerical staff assigned to the Compliance and Quality Assurance unit together with the Assistant Director for Compliance. Drafts protocols and procedures as needed, and updates and maintains the special education handbook/manual. Coordinates an annual on-site review process of selected schools in order to monitor compliance with district policies and regulatory requirements. Collaborates with the Office of Instructional and Information Technology to enhance, support and monitor the IEP Management System. Collaborates with the Business Office to ensure that all of the documentation required to obtain Medicaid and Circuit Breaker reimbursement for all eligible services is submitted within the appropriate timelines. Prepares ongoing reports for the Assistant Superintendent concerning school level and district data relevant to special education student enrollment, referrals and programs. Ensures that all required state and federal special education reports are prepared and submitted in a timely manner. Collaborates with both internal BPS departments and external agencies to ensure that students with disabilities have equitable access to all BPS programs and services. Works with other District administrators to provide technical assistance and support to school leaders regarding special education compliance issues. Work with the Office of the Legal Advisor to address inquiries by the Office of Civil Rights to resolve complaints and issues related to students with disabilities. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Special Education.
