Trusts & Estates Paralegal Part-time
The candidate will establish close rapport with client and beneficiaries to ensure positive and cooperative working relationship during the course of the estate administration. Prepare probate and administration documents for formal and informal proceedings. Collect, analyze and organize decedent’s financial records, including tax returns, intervivos trust agreements, gift tax returns and financial statements. Value decedent’s assets at the date of death and the applicable alternate value date(s) and determine liabilities of the estate. Prepare required documents in connection with release of federal and state estate tax liens on real property and prepare Executor’s deeds. Consider post-mortem estate planning and prepare disclaimer documents. Prepare U.S. and non-resident estate tax and inheritance tax returns. Prepare required documents in connection with the distribution of general and specific bequests, interim and residuary distributions and finding of testamentary trusts. Compile materials required in connection with an audit of estate and/or inheritance tax returns. Prepare and file Accountings and related settlement documents. Assist attorneys, as needed, in connection with drafting Wills, other estate planning documents and estate litigation documents. Special projects and duties, as assigned. Must have strong research and investigative skills. Should have Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; paralegal certificate strongly preferred. 5+ years of experience in trusts and estates required. Experience as a paralegal in a law firm strongly preferred. Previous experience with a variety of tax programs, including programs for estate and inheritance tax, fiduciary income tax, estate tax, and securities evaluations is required.
