Assistant Public Defender
The candidate will establish relationships with clients upon appointment. Fully investigate facts and law applicable to client’s case. Utilize experts and investigators on a case-by-case basis. Negotiate with the prosecutor towards a resolution of client’s case, if appropriate. Advise clients as to best course of action, and when necessary and appropriate, represent client in a trial by jury or Judge. Represent the Public Defender’s Office as a component of one or move diversion court teams. Supervise and oversee felony and misdemeanor cases. Other duties as assigned by the Public Defender. Must have a J.D. or equivalent degree from an accredited law school. Preference given to applicants with prior jury trial experience representing the accused. Preference will be given to bi-lingual applicants required. Knowledge of Criminal defense and court procedures required. Ability to prepare and analyze comprehensive legal documents required. Ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion required. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing required. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, county officials, the court system, and the general public required. Must have a Texas Law license. Must be an active member and in good standing with the Texas State Bar Association.
