Objectives and Responsibilities:

The primary objective of the Portfolio Accountant is the accurate and timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports in accordance with GIT policy for multi-family, commercial, and other entities as assigned, and to assist the Controller in ensuring the efficient day-to-day operation of the accounting function.  

  • Seeks and maintains a thorough understanding of applicable accounting, financial reporting, Yardi and other computer processes and procedures, lender debt service reporting requirements, and procedures as required to responsibly perform the duties of a Portfolio Accountant.
  • Seeks to understand what goes on behind the numbers. What business processes are at work and what do the numbers indicate about the business process?  Be able to recognize red flags, errors and irregularities, and to research, correct, or report issues as they may arise. 
  • Conducts oneself in a responsible and professional manner at all times, to treat all other companies and outside third-party personnel with courtesy and respect, and promote the good welfare of the department and the company to others.   
  • Follow all Employee Handbook procedures and policies. 
  • Productive, goal-oriented, self-starter.
  • Takes ownership of responsibilities and seeks additional duties where time, availability, and necessity are indicated.
  • This role reports to Executive Vice President, Vice President of Operations, and Managing Director.
  • 40 or more hours per week. As needed on weekends, mornings, and evenings before or after normal business hours.


  • Min. 4 Yr Degree or Equivalent Accounting Education and CPA.
  • 7+ years related industry experience
  • Must be familiar with standard accounting concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Exceptional computer skills with various software such as Microsoft Excel and Word. Familiarity with various Yardi systems is preferred.
  • Professional communication skills
  • Strong focus, attention to detail, high rate of accuracy
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Efficient and excellent time-management skills 
  • Lives near to La Jolla, CA


  • Compensation: $50,000 - $60,000 per year, PLUS yearly performance bonus based on merit up to $7,500.
  • Certain Reimbursements for office supplies, travel, gas
