Director of Risk Management –
The candidate advises the firm on matters related to patient safety, liability, and mitigation of safety events and/or poor outcomes with an eye to maximizing patient safety and a culture of transparency. Monitors, advises, and informs strategy for the system as new standards, regulations, and laws are passed. Develops system-wide infrastructure for minimizing risk for patients, clinicians, and hospitals. Collaborates with colleagues and CRICO (the firm medical professional liability and PSO), as needed, to respond to patient grievances, deleterious outcomes, and takes a key role in driving to resolution all system wide safety events. Collaborates with the Director of Safety and CQO to create system wide infrastructure to monitor and aggregate key safety events within the system, detecting patterns and advising on responses to reduce patient harm. Provides risk management reports to stakeholder groups as necessary. Advises the newly created MGB Office of CMO Committee on policy on development of system wide policies, as well as reconciliation of these policies with the site-level committees and practices. Facilitate engagement/relations with external regulatory and compliance bodies for areas related to risk and compliance such as The Joint Commission, Department of Public Health and organizations that support developing clinical quality and safety standards. Other duties as assigned. Undergraduate degree is required); graduate/juris doctorate is preferred. Should have 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare field with 5+ years as a director of risk management or higher is required. Deep experience and command of the literature as it relates to safety science, safety principles, root cause analysis, and equity informed high reliability principles is required.
