Assistant General Counsel - Life Insurance Products

The candidate will provide advice and any other assistance on a broad range of regulatory matters affecting the development, administration and marketing of life insurance products. Work closely with the product development, legal and compliance teams to draft, file and gain regulatory approval of new life insurance products. Analyze marketing material and sales illustrations for compliance under applicable insurance regulations. Provide legal counsel on issues affecting the administration of in-force life insurance business. Advise on responses to market conduct exams and other regulatory inquiries pertaining to the traditional life insurance business. Research and advise on legislative and regulatory matters impacting the traditional life insurance business. Provide legal advice on service initiatives and electronic commerce for insurance transactions. Perform legal research and write legal memoranda. JD required. Admission to the New York State Bar. Should have 3-5 years of experience practicing corporate law, the insurance industry and regulatory experience preferred. Superior written and oral communication skills with the ability to summarize complex legal matters concisely and accurately. Excellent interpersonal skills and executive presence and the ability to liaison effectively with business partners. Superior proofreading skills and the ability to edit documents and suggest improvements to existing material. A well-balanced consultative approach and the ability to work with business and legal colleagues across all levels. Demonstrated ability to approach issues with both rigorous attention to detail and a big-picture strategic focus. Strong cross-functional risk-spotting skills. Proven record of prioritizing multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines. High level of integrity with strong decision-making skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment. Ability and experience in making independent decisions as well as taking reasonable risks.
