Senior Counsel
The candidate will dive in and own a wide range of legal matters including vehicle and autonomy regulation, product development counseling, domain expansion, safety, organizational governance, litigation risk, licensing, and intellectual property, working directly with business clients to accelerate ATG's core mission building self-driving cars that drive more than themselves. Serve as a front-line attorney, identifying, resolving and advising on issues impacting the dynamic Company ATG product managers, deal makers, designers, engineers, analysts, and operations specialists who are developing transformative self-driving technology. Review products, autonomy features, and programmatic initiatives to assess legal compliance across multiple regulatory schemes and jurisdictions, from the early stages of product development through launch. Assess testing regulations applicable to operating autonomous vehicles in numerous cities and states, and craft effective measures for internal and external compliance, including reporting on vehicle operations and engaging with policymakers. Partner with the business in safety and change management decision making. Integrate a full-view integration of risk and legal controls into commercial agreements. Provide day-to-day and project-based supervision of other team members. Create and implement policies and practices to ensure consistent implementation of legal guidance. Collaborate closely with colleagues on other legal teams, such as IP, Privacy & Security, Antitrust, Marketing and Employment, to provide comprehensive advice, and solve legal problems quickly for ATG. J.D. and license to practice law in at least one state. 8 years of legal experience in private practice, government and/or in-house. Experience with autonomous vehicles or mobility platforms. Experience comparing and contrasting regulations in multiple markets. 2 years of in-house experience is highly preferred. Experience and high comfort level in advising on a wide range of legal issues related to technology, hardware, and/or software platforms. Experience counseling in a regulated industry, interpreting and delivering clear, actionable guidance for clients. Strong communication and team orientation.
