Field Legal Secretary I
The candidate will prepare, standard legal documents i.e., contracts, briefs, motions, summonses etc. Handle routine inquiries in the attorney's absence i.e., negotiates extensions of time. Manage attorney's calendar through Legal Files i.e., schedule appointments and coordinate depositions and appearances. Resolve scheduling conflicts with the attorney's approval. Use computer applications to the fullest degree. Answer select telephone inquiries based on knowledge of case. Respond to written or telephone inquiries with a standard letter. Establish, maintains, and when necessary, revises attorney's files. Perform additional duties as requested such as: arrange medical exams; maintain lists of witnesses, subpoenas, fees, etc. Request fees for payment from Claims department and or CLBU; participate in arranging the attorney's files for easy access during trials; and inform witnesses of scheduled court appearances; and miscellaneous duties. Associate's degree in administrative assistance/secretarial science or equivalent training is required, with 1-2 years of administrative assistant/secretarial experience. Prior experience in a legal environment is strongly preferred. Solid ability to edit and proofread legal documents is needed. Should display solid MS-Office skills. Prior experience with legal software systems preferred and other electronic media systems.
