The candidate will provide legal guidance in a consistent “system-wide” approach, while allowing for recognition of each individual hospital’s unique situations. Will gain experience in a wide range of legal issues, under the supervision of the Associate Counsel’s within OGC. Must be second and third year law students with a demonstrated interest in healthcare law and a desire to experience first-hand, the demands, responsibilities, and rewards of serving as in-house counsel to a large academic medical institution and multi-hospital medical system, which is distinct from the role of outside legal counsel. A grade point average of 3.0 or better is required. Draft physician contracts (i.e. employment agreements, leases of medical offices, etc.) and other contracts involving physicians. Review and provide feedback and revisions to Master Purchase Agreements for Software, Goods or Services relating to issues such as indemnification, warranty, and limitation of liability. Research a multitude of legal issues, including, but not limited to: the privacy, security, retention, disclosure and destruction of medical records; medical staff matters; Medicare and/or Medicaid reimbursement; non-profit corporation issues; health care decision-making; guardianship; employment/immigration issues; corporate structure; and informed consent. Actively enrolled in a JD degree program at an ABA accredited law school. Cumulative GPA 3.0 is needed. Must have completed at least 1 year of law school (2L, 3L, 2E, 3E).
