GENERAL DUTIES:

• The Assistant Director of Facilities Management will provide support to the Director of Facilities Management in all aspects of the physical plant, and all buildings that are under the scope of Desert Regional Medical Center.  The Assistant Director of Facilities Management proactively in their approach to organize and direct a comprehensive program to ensure the integrity of the physical plant and the safety of its occupants.  The assistant director must possess the skills and abilities to proactively manage multiple assignments simultaneously.  Responsibilities may include: Front line oversight of several departments such as Plant Operations, Engineering, Bio-Medical Services, Environmental Services, Food and Nutrition, Grounds, Security and Safety, PBX Communications, Construction and Hazardous Material / Waste Management and Emergency Management. The hours may vary to meet the needs of the facility at any time. This list is not all inclusive and may include any other duty as assigned. No Patient Health Information access required.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES: 

• May need to drive a company vehicle during business hours.  

• Assist the Director of Facilities Management to oversee the planning and organization of the seven Environment of Care standards.

• Help to establish, implement, monitor and document evidence of an ongoing and comprehensive Hazardous Materials Program.

• Establishes, implements, monitors and documents evidence of an ongoing and comprehensive Safety Program.

• Participates on various committees as needed to assist the Director of Facilities Management

The Assistant Director of Facilities Management will provide support to the Director of Facilities Management through the following areas. - 

• Proactively plan, organize and supervise the activities of the department/service.

• Maintains the department/service in compliance with all applicable governing and accrediting authorities.

• Train the staff as needed to improve their current skill set and improve customer service skills.

• Serves as a liaison with contractors, architects and other suppliers for construction projects.

• Manages construction/remodel projects and advises on modifications to the physical plant.

• Oversees the establishment and monitoring of preventative maintenance programs; analyzes costs and work schedules; sets priorities and expedites operations and repairs.

• Oversees the planning, organization and supervision of the activities in the department/service.

• Oversees and monitors the Food and Nutrition Department to ensure that the food and nutritional service to our patients, staff and visitors is maintained at a high level.

• Oversees and monitors the environmental services program to maintain the hospital in an attractive, clean and orderly condition.

• Oversees and monitors the Security/PBX and any contract service to ensure the services are maintained at a high level.

• Oversees and monitors the Grounds Contract Service to ensure the appearance of the grounds is maintained at a high level.

• Continuously assesses and improves the quality of care and services provided; maintains quality control programs as appropriate.

• Maintains the department/service in compliance with all applicable governing and accrediting authorities.

• Updates policies and procedures; secures annual approval and conducts periodic staff meetings to inform staff of changes.

• Actively participates in the development of the Capital Equipment and operations budget, and maintain the operations/service within budget parameters.

• Performs appropriate and timely personnel performance evaluations determines the qualifications and competency of personnel; provides for the orientation and continuing education of staff. Schedule work with Department Heads & contractor for start of work.

• Ensure contractor has current license, workers compensation insurance, and have taken DRMC Contractor training/Safety Test.

• Complete a walk through and punch list with Department head or vendor at the end of a job.

• Perform the oversight of timekeeping for the staff as well as a regular schedule for staffing.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:  

A Bachelor’s degree is required or obtained within 3 years of hire. Five years of progressive experience in supervision of staff, construction, utilities, building and maintenance of equipment. Three years’ of verifiable experience with forecasting, cost analysis and departmental budgeting as well as oversight of vendor management / contracts. Three years’ verifiable of experience of the management of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to include oversight of reports, staffing, and productivity for work order completion and Preventative Maintenance (PM) completion to meet the needs of the facility and Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). Three years’ verifiable experience with the oversight of all testing to meet the requirements of The Joint Commission (TJC). All verifiable experience shall be within the last 5 years.

Current California driver’s license; a copy of the renewed license will need to be submitted upon renewal.  A Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) will be completed at the time of hire and on an annual basis thereafter. Evidence of current car insurance; a copy of the renewed car insurance will be need to submitted upon renewal.

  Preferred:

  A Certificate in Hospital Engineering is preferred.  Previous hospital facilities

  Management experience preferred.
