Duties: Assist and support counsel in resolving varied and complex legal matters affecting the regulated water and wastewater businesses, including those related to property, transactional and regulatory issues. Review acquisition and sale transaction documents, including financial and real property information; draft documents under the direction of the lead attorney; assist in due diligence, with particular emphasis on real property issues. Conduct independent research of land and property tax records and review complex title reports of company owned property and easements as necessary for acquisition and sale transactions, as well as other business transactions. Draft, negotiate and manage tank antenna and property leases, consultant, confidentiality, building and property access, easement, purchase and sale, operating and various other agreements as needed. Assist in preparation of complex legal briefs and documentation for evidentiary hearings; draft pleading and legal templates; complete cite checking; conduct interviews with witnesses, prepare deposition information, witness materials; investigate facts; assist at hearings and settlement discussions. Coordinate and collaborate with representatives of internal business units, as necessary to assist in coordinating and providing in-house legal services or improve legal support processes; assist and act as a resource for colleagues with less experience. Manage company records, including permanent, historical corporate and real property documents, in accordance with the company’s records retention policy and practice. Organize and maintain document intensive data and databases using business technology applications; may include data analytics and reporting, data preservation, data collection (independently and through coordination of external and internal resources), physical documents, exhibits and evidence Track, prepare, reconcile and submit corporate expense statements. Conducts first-line review of expense statements and ensures timely and accurate processing. Preemptively handle missing items. Process invoices and other budgetary items ensuring prompt processing and accuracy of all. Manage all PO’s, monitor budget, accruals and spend. Monitor and maintain relationships with outside legal services; track and report on associated time and cost; make recommendations to improve quality, cost and efficiency of acquired outside legal services.
