A law firm in Seattle, WA, is seeking a Bankruptcy and Creditors' Rights Associate Attorney with 2-5 years of experience. The ideal candidate will be responsible for bankruptcy and creditors' rights cases and must be willing to take ownership of client cases/files. The role involves direct client contact, drafting legal documents, appearing in court, and providing legal advice and guidance.

Duties:

  • Manage client cases and files, ensuring a seamless transition for clients through their bankruptcy or creditors' rights matters.
  • Perform legal research, and draft court briefs and various legal documents.
  • Strategize with team members and clients on case strategies.
  • Appear on behalf of clients in federal bankruptcy court, primarily in Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 matters.
  • Appear in state courts for receivership proceedings and other commercial litigation related to judgment collection, liens, or voidable transfer litigation.
  • Draft or supervise the drafting of memoranda, loan documents, court briefs, and other bankruptcy and receivership pleadings.
  • Participate in bankruptcy preparation, reporting requirements, and case administration, including filing preparation, bankruptcy reporting, claims support, and plan support.
  • Possess an understanding of financial statements, valuation techniques, bankruptcy, and receivership codes and statutes.
  • Engage in state and federal receivership cases, including moving for receivers on behalf of secured lender clients or representing receiver clients in liquidating businesses or properties.
  • Handle creditors' rights litigation, including actions on guarantees, lender liability claims, and voidable transfer and preference actions.
  • Attend meetings and events related to the Bankruptcy and Creditors' Rights Group and participate in business development activities and initiatives.
  • Initiate and respond to phone calls and emails.
  • Supervise the work of legal assistants and potentially paralegals.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate and JD degrees from accredited academic institutions.
  • Current WSBA (Washington State Bar Association) membership.
  • License to practice law in the state and admission to the Bankruptcy Court.
  • Admission to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District.
  • Excellent legal writing and oral communication skills.
  • Effective delegation and training skills.
