Deputy Insurance Risk Manager


1) Participate in design and management of the insurance program that covers KeyCorp and its subsidiaries. This requires:

Substantive, working familiarity with a broad range of commercial insurance coverages, including those unique to financial institutions

Working familiarity with processes, procedures, and services available from brokers, loss control consultants, claim administrators, legal counsel, and other providers

2) Serve as Insurance Risk Partner/Subject Matter Expert/Second Line of Defense to avoid or mitigate risk. This requires:

Providing support, training, and feedback to lending and leasing lines of business

Providing input during vendor engagement and third party management processes

Supporting other internal clients as needed: corporate real estate, legal, strategy/M&A, others

Maintaining current knowledge of insurance marketplace developments regarding insurance availability, scope of coverage, or other factors that may have impact on client or vendor insurance compliance


Represent KeyCorp and foster enhancement of insurance and risk management functions through participation in insurance and risk associations, financial services roundtables, and working groups


Bachelors degree in risk management, finance or accounting; other majors considered with sufficient insurance-related experience

Completion or substantial progress toward attainment of professional insurance designation(s) such as Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter or Associate in Risk Management

10 years experience in risk management for a large corporation, or in agency or brokerage operations, or a combination of both, working on large accounts (ideally Fortune 1000), particularly with an emphasis in financial services and commercial real estate


Experience working with large-deductible programs, self-insurance, and captive insurance arrangements

Skill at reviewing, interpreting, and drafting provisions for policies and contracts

Experience in a supervisory capacity


Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written

Analytical skills, particularly toward structure and design of insurance solutions

Skill as teacher/instructor, both in classroom and one-to-one

Collaborative mindset
