JOB SUMMARY:
This job is responsible for performing special interventional diagnostic and therapeutic examinations under the direction of a licensed physician using radiologic imaging for guiding the procedure. Work includes but is not limited to (1) reviewing and/or recording pertinent patient history and supporting clinical data; (2) preparing patients for testing (3) using C-arms, fluoroscopy, and tomography to perform exams and procedures and obtain a record of data for interpretation by provider; (4) participating in interventional radiology and cardiovascular procedures.
Incumbents are also accountable for; keeping abreast of CHI-FH standards, protocols and procedures relating to the department; keeping skills current; demonstrating evidence of continuing education to include department meetings, individualized learning opportunities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Prepares equipment/room to capture appropriate image, per physicians’ direction and in adherence to department protocols.
Reviews procedure order to determine materials/supplies that will be needed.
Ensures all equipment and instruments are in proper working condition by inspecting equipment in accordance with established procedures.
Sets up/stocks the procedure room/procedure trays with all needed supplies and equipment prior to procedure.
Cleans procedure room post-procedure, including cleaning of equipment/machinery in accordance with established procedures, to facilitate room turnover.
Inputs data into the imaging modality systems.
Delivers patient care for all age groups while in performing exams/procedures.
Assists with patient transfers to and from procedure room as needed.
Acts as a liaison between the patient and the physician; protects the patient, self and others from unnecessary radiation.
Explains procedures to patients and responds to questions.
In conjunction with nursing staff, monitors patient’s blood pressure, heart rate and rhythm during procedures; advises physician of any significant change in patient’s condition during procedure.
Utilizes equipment and employs techniques/procedures per protocol and devices to ensure results are consistent (may include, but not limited to: wire, catheter, balloon management, ablations, implantations, coilings) and to facilitate procedures done outside the lab, (CT, biopsies, aspirations etc.).
Assists the physician during procedures; utilizes sterile technique according to established policies and procedures and state/federal regulations.
Responds to emergency situations consistent with scope of practice.
Maintains records and logs as required by department protocols and licensure requirements.
Prepares cases for interpretation.
Maintains accurate patient records by documenting the patient chart with pertinent information in the electronic medical record, hemodynamic monitoring system and Radiation Information Systems (RIS).
Performs incidental general office duties to include, but not limited to:
Answer phones; inventory management.
Inventory/stocking of equipment and supplies.','!*!MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Work Experience Requirements
Graduation from an accredited school of Radiological Technology, Interventional Radiology or Special Procedures Technologist (or equivalent).
Licensure/Certification
American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) is required.
Washington State Radiologic Technologist certification required.
