Job Description
 Company Overview Grainger is a broad line, business-to-business distributor of maintenance, repair and operating (MRO) supplies and other related products and services. They place orders online, on mobile devices, through sales representatives, over the phone and at local branches. Approximately 5,000 suppliers provide Grainger with more than 1.6 million products stocked in Grainger’s distribution centers and branches worldwide. Primary Function:Responsible for the preparation of the Company’s consolidated financial statements.  The role provides exposure and development in U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting.  It interfaces with Finance and non-finance professionals in Accounting and across business and corporate functions such as Investor Relations, Financial Planning & Analysis, Treasury and Legal. Duties and Responsibilities: Coordinate all aspects of the preparation of financial reports on SEC Forms 10Q and 10K, including U.S. GAAP financial statements and disclosures, MD&A and other SEC reporting requirements within established filing requirements.Complete financial disclosure checklists and review financial statements and disclosure support in accordance with US GAAP and SEC requirements.Prepare the company’s consolidated cash flow statement. Prepare and review electronic filings with the SEC via EDGAR and XBRL.File Form 8K’s; Section 13D reports and other required SEC filings, working with the legal department.Perform financial analysis and prepare support for Investor Relations and senior management for earnings releases.Provide support to Investor Relations in the preparation of annual reports, fact books and analyst presentations.Support the quarterly reviews and annual financial audit by E&Y.Research USGAAP technical accounting matters and SEC requirements.Assist with the company-wide implementation of new accounting pronouncements and reporting requirements.Participate in ad hoc reporting and analysis requests. Provide support for special projects, including M&A, as needed.Assist in the monthly consolidation process and preparation of financial statements, including the identification, review and maintenance of US GAAP adjustments, accounting for non-controlling interest and other areas, as applicable.Provide support in process documentation, internal controls testing in conjunction with Grainger’s SOX compliance.Participate in the review, interpretation and analysis of key performance indicators, economic data and other management reports to assist management in evaluating business performance.Proactively highlight opportunities for process improvements, automation and standardization across business units.Identify and develop new reports and analytics for management needs and analysis.Provide support to other team members in the review and validation of reports and ad hoc reporting and analysis requests.External partners:External Big 4 auditorsSecurities & Exchange CommissionSoftware vendors (WebFilings, Intelligize)Government census agenciesAccounting professionals and external consultants, as appropriate Internal partners:The role requires extensive interaction with individuals at various levels across the organization, including senior leadershipWorks across business units and various functions (Finance, Accounting, Investors Relations, Corporate FP&A, Treasury, Tax)  Preferred Education and Experience: CPA or pursuing the certification is required “Big 4” public accounting or related large public company experience requiredStrong knowledge of US GAAP and experience in SEC reporting rules and regulations requiredExperience in project management, including continuous improvement efforts related to financial reporting processes, system and tools to optimize productivity and internal controls.Proven analytical skills and ability to recognize unusual trends.Strong sense of accuracy, attention to detail and organization.Self-starter, able to multi-task and independently execute projects cross-functionally.Able to work within deadline orientated environment, especially during the monthly and quarterly process is critical.Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.Demonstrated ability to develop partnerships and work with others to accomplish objectives and results.Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel required.Proficiency in computer applications such as SAP, BPC, Blackline and Workiva is a distinct plus.Impact: This role is critical to the Company’s compliance with US GAAP and SEC reporting standards, rules and regulations.  Any material error in the reporting may affect the Company’s ability to access capital marketsThis department regularly communicates critical information to Company’s leadership team, which must be delivered timely and accurately, in order to support decision process. Serves as a financial reporting expert who provides cross-functional support for business initiatives and related analysis, along with the interpretation and practical application of various technical accounting pronouncements. Grainger is an Equal Opportunity Workplace and an Affirmative Action Employer.
