Senior Staff Attorney

The candidate will provide guidance and assistance to Deputy Public Defenders to include staffing cases and co-chairing trials. Appear in the tribal and appellate court as a Public Defender counsel, which may include managing client case files, representing the clients in court, selecting juries, arguing motions, and/or performing other related activities. Prepare a variety of legal documents including memorandums, briefs, and appeals for subsequent proceedings following court decisions, legal pleadings, and/or other related documents. Conduct a variety of legal research, analysis, and document preparation related to cases, statutes, records, and related information to determine applicable arguments and potential case outcomes. Assist with strategic planning for office; compile statistical information, review and assign cases, and maintain law library; as needed. Maintain professional conduct that conforms to the standards established. May coordinate and establish substance abuse treatment with internal and external agencies. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.
