This is an entry-level editorial role reporting to Demand Media’s Content Channels team. The Associate Editor will work closely with Demand Media Studios, leveraging a network of expert contributors and audience insights and data to help external partners (including USAToday.com and AZCentral.com) expand into new editorial categories and reach high-value, intent-driven audiences. 
 
The ideal candidate will be a proactive achiever with a strong editorial sense and ability to work intensely and efficiently with the Content team. A passion for the editorial product we create is a must.
 
Responsibilities:

Work with a driven and highly motivated team to support content production and delivery of content to dozens of off-network partner sites and third-party customers
Act as part of the editorial team to define editorial direction, curate homepage content, write voice documents and guidelines, establish taxonomies, source and manage qualified writers and editors, oversee content production and perform other duties to support successful creation of high-quality content for partners at scale
Research a broad range of subjects to create specialized content requirements for third-party customers in niche verticals
Thoroughly review, assess and edit articles to identify editorial trends and ensure content meets quality standards and adheres to partners’ style guides
Conceive and develop strategies to cultivate new systems, tools and workflow processes and improve efficiency and quality of content
Work closely with various internal departments, including but not limited to the editorial, product and titling teams, on the development, production and delivery of content

 
Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, communications or related field.
One to two years of experience in an editorial environment (strong writing and copyediting skills, including experience working with an editorial calendar and selecting photos for articles).
Journalism, English, communications or related field preferred
Proven team player with strong interpersonal skills
Editorial Experience (strong writing and copyediting skills, including experience working with an editorial calendar and selecting photos for articles).
Ability to successfully juggle several projects simultaneously while working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Strong analytical and creative skills
A strong ability to perform independently while working in a team environment
Clear understanding of online publishing and the competitive landscape, as well as traditional journalism and how it fits into the evolving paradigms of the Web
Proven experience working with content management systems
Familiarity with AP style or other publishing style manuals
Flexibility with rapidly changing priorities and customer needs
Strong organizational and analytical skills and ability to work independently
Social Media Experience (Facebook, Twitter, Google ).
Efficiency, accuracy, dependability and strong attention to detail
Solid Microsoft Office Skills; data management and Excel experience preferred
Journalistic curiosity and energy to discover new topics; creative problem solving skills
Proven experience working with a content management system
Strong interpersonal skills and experience collaborating in a team environment
Knowledge of Web publishing tools, such as blog software, a plus
