Head of Mass Spectrometry Core Facility

Encodia, San Diego, California

Position Description:

JOIN US!

Encodia is a rapidly growing platform company that is developing a new generation of protein analysis tools based on single-molecule protein sequencing. Our goal is to make protein sequencing easy and ubiquitous by using a novel reverse-translation technology that turns peptide sequences into DNA. The DNA can be read by a DNA sequencer, providing a path to breakthrough proteomics research at a scale that is not practical or cost-effective using current technologies. For more information, please visit our website at https://www.encodia.com/

HEAD OF MASS SPECTROMETRY CORE FACILITY

Encodia is seeking to recruit a passionate mass spectrometry scientist to helm our MS core facility and lead experimental design and data interpretation across a full complement of biomolecules including small molecules, peptides, proteins and oligonucleotides as we empower proteomics through the development of our

ProteoCode

platform.

Qualifications:

PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field with 5 years of experience in a biotechnology or (bio)pharmaceutical setting (title commensurate to experience level)

Proficiency in quantitative proteomics techniques; highlights could include analysis of post-translational modifications, labeled and label-free quantification methods

Expertise with operation and method development on nanoflow liquid chromatography systems and hybrid mass spectrometers along with their data analysis tools (eg. MaxQuant, Skyline, etc.)

Experience in H/UPLC testing and method development

Expertise in impurity and unknown compound ID using mass spectrometry

Understanding of organic chemistry and reaction mechanism

Team oriented, collaborative, excellent verbal and written communication skill

HIGHLY DESIRABLE

Experience using MS to analyze a range of biomolecules: proteins, peptides, small molecules, oligonucleotides, antibodies

Experience conducting MS acquisitions in a variety of environments: SQ, Q-TOF, ion trap

Experience in organic chemistry synthesis and/or bioconjugation

Working knowledge in assay development to characterize the in vitro interactions of biological macromolecules

Technical team and/or project leadership experience

Encodia requires all on-site employees to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and to provide proof of vaccination at time of hire. This requirement extends to candidates for employment in order to participate in on-site interviews. Any candidate who is unable to meet the requirement may participate virtually in the interview process. Please let us know if you require a vaccination accommodation and a member of our Human Resources team will contact you.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Creating and managing a best-in-class mass spectrometry ecosystem to make MS a lynchpin analytical readout across Encodia: proteomics, synthesis, QC, trace analysis

Innovating and directing fit-for-purpose MS workflows: Sample preparation, MS acquisition, data processing, data analysis, report production, presentation

Directing the consolidation and automation of heavy use workflows in collaboration with Encodia’s bioinformatics team

Empowering Encodia scientists with leadership around MS data interpretation and data QC

Managing a technical core facility team

Distilling, organizing and synthesizing results into cogent and transparent visual aids and presentations to a wide range of both scientific and business audiences
