Marketing and Business Development Manager
The candidate supports Partners, Director(s), Assistant Director(s) and other key firm personnel in managing business development and marketing functions for the Palo Alto and San Francisco offices, department(s), practice(s), client team(s) and/or industry group(s) while working closely with other members of the global marketing and business development team to ensure a fully integrated marketing and business development program. Develops and supports annual marketing and business development business plans and budgets for the Palo Alto and San Francisco offices, department(s), practice(s), client team(s) and/or industry group(s) focused on priorities outlined by firm leaders and/or assigned teams, including thought leadership platforms, communications, and client outreach. Coordinates office events to include all aspects of event planning such as, venue scheduling, catering, décor, staffing, entertainment, facilities and materials. Events will include hosting practice group social events, partner meetings, Diversity & Inclusion events, recruiting and Summer Associate events, as well as various social functions, office holiday and summer parties hosted by the Office Managing Partner. When relevant, provides support for seminars, sponsorships, and other client events pursued by the firm in the Palo Alto and San Francisco offices. Maintains and reconciles firm-issued P-Card (purchasing credit card) ensuring that all transactions are coded properly and within the prescribed purchasing guidelines. Leverages existing internal resources (PR, BD, MarComms, Lateral Recruiting, Alumni Relations, and Diversity & Inclusion) to streamline the efforts and collectively raise the profile of the Palo Alto and San Francisco offices and practices, including publicizing wins internally and externally; posting on social media platforms including LinkedIn; managing regional advertising campaigns; and educating the lawyers on how to be brand ambassadors. Collaborates with Alumni Relations to engage with alumni; identify potential referral sources; and support regional alumni events. Supports coordination of business development training for lawyers in assigned department(s), practice(s), client team(s) and/or industry group(s) and the Palo Alto and San Francisco offices. Partners with BD colleagues to facilitate the completion of directory submissions; regional surveys; specific lawyer and practice awards and accolades; and other profile-raising initiatives on behalf of the Palo Alto and San Francisco offices. Preparation of targeted information for inclusion in lateral recruiting packet. Supports integration of lateral lawyers into assigned department(s) and practice(s) via preparation of biographies and announcements, distribution of announcements, integration of contacts into firm’s CRM system. Collection and integration of experience for and into department(s), practice(s) and industry group(s) materials. Coordination with Communications team as to internal and external communications relating to the lawyer’s arrival. Collaborates with global events team on best practices and processes including use of event meeting calendars, CRM usage, ROI tracking, expense management and annual budget forecasting and management. When relevant, provides support for seminars, sponsorships, and other client events pursued by the firm (as assigned). Supports responses to RFPs, and pitch, presentation, and other opportunities via the development of written proposal and presentation materials for assigned department(s), practice(s), client team(s) and/or industry group(s), and liaise with others when relevant. Manages and directs marketing and business development client development programs for assigned department(s), practice(s), client team(s) and/or industry group(s) and the Palo Alto and San Francisco offices. Engages in research and analysis and competitive intelligence-gathering for strategic planning, competitive firm positioning, and business development activities for assigned department(s), practice(s), client team(s) and/or industry group(s) and the Palo Alto and San Francisco offices. Manages continuous communications and interaction with departmental, practice, client team and industry group and Palo Alto and San Francisco offices leadership, including responsibility for periodic meetings, reports, analysis, progress monitoring, etc.. Periodically reviews and consults with lawyers in assigned department(s), practice(s) and/or industry group(s) and the Palo Alto and San Francisco offices regarding their bios and practice descriptions to ensure that they are kept current. Supports the collection and maintenance of CRM-based contact and other data for marketing planning and for mailing lists for assigned department(s), practice(s), client team(s) and/or industry group(s) and the Palo Alto and San Francisco offices. Position may require travel. Performs other duties as assigned or required to meet Firm goals and objectives. Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Research, Communications or related field is required. Advance degree (e.g., a Master’s degree, a Ph.D., an M.B.A., or J.D.) is preferred. Should have 6+ years of demonstrated success in a marketing, research, management, and/or communications-related field, either in the professional services (e.g., law, accounting, or consulting) or in a comparable position(s) in the corporate, trade association, or academic sectors, required.
