Compliance Specialist - Integrity & Compliance
The candidate responsibilities include: Drafts, redlines, negotiates and finalizes Compliance and/or Privacy contracts/documents, including but not limited to Business Associate Agreements and/or Data Use Agreements, under the direction of the Privacy Officer and with minimal oversight. Serve as subject matter expert in conflict of interest disclosures and management plan development and maintenance. Anticipate contracting issues and initiates appropriate actions to ensure contract documents are processed efficiently and in accordance with applicable laws, rules and regulations along with UMMC policies and guidelines. Coordinate the meetings of those charged with reviewing and making decisions about reported conflicts of interest by employees/contractors and coordinates the response back to the employee/contractor. Monitor and ensure completeness of conflict of interest information while managing and resolving conflict of interest related inquiries.Implement and administers procedures for exports and travel while maintaining compliance with federal regulations for export controls. Stay abreast of applicable healthcare laws, rules and regulations, including but not limited to HIPAA, FERPA, Substance Abuse and Mental Health confidentiality regulations, Stark, Anti-kickback, and those related to Fraud/Abuse. Determine the impact of applicable healthcare laws, rules and regulations in order to provide guidance as applicable to lower compliance risks to UMMC; helps to reduce compliance risks to UMMC by identifying and effectively communicating potential compliance issues to management and resolving the issues or assisting management in resolving the issues. Compile and presents compliance data, including statistical data, to committees, leadership, etc., as needed or requested, in a professional manner to ensure understanding of content and urgency of the message. Develop and maintains solid working relationships with internal (i.e. other compliance staff/co-workers, physicians, administrators, legal counsel, etc.) and external customers. Handle multiple tasks and priorities in a changing business environment; conducts research on legal issues or other topics as required; participates on special project teams.
