Patent Attorney III

Duties : Provide constructive and supportive legal advice and counsel to firm's managers and employees, advising them regarding the legal aspects and consequences of proposed courses of action and identifying alternative courses of action that will avoid or minimize legal difficulties for firm's while also facilitating mission accomplishment. Responsibilities include oversight, management, and exploitation of the firm's patent and copyright estate, management of outside counsel for Intellectual Property matters, the preparation and review of license agreements, Cooperative Research and Development Agreements, Strategic Sponsored Partnership Agreements, Material Transfer Agreements, and other technology transfer agreements as needed. Work to implement firm's strategic vision of its intellectual assets, including internal education of scientists and engineers as well as the various firm's business units. Work with clients at all levels (ranging from the bench scientist and business development executive to the Technology Transfer manager and Laboratory Director’s office) to develop and implement risk mitigation strategies, and be expected to practice preventive law by anticipating and working to avoid unreasonable risks. Conduct and participate in negotiations with outside persons, other entities, and their patent attorneys who may be in either an adversarial or a partnership relationship with firm.
