Criminal Defense Practice Staff Attorney

Duties:

The candidate will be identifying problems and challenges that our clients experience during incarceration and strategizing solutions. Will be designing and executing civil litigation concerning prison and jail conditions, including factual investigation, identifying legal claims and issues, conducting and analyzing discovery, motion practice, settlement, and trial. Monitoring compliance with existing judgments, and seeking their enforcement. Understanding clients' legal needs through interviews, correspondence, and record reviews, and advocating for clients with prisons, jails, and other local, state and federal agencies. Working substantively and collegially with others, including PRP and Legal Aid Society colleagues, pro bono counsel, community groups, and policy makers. Conducting policy advocacy on issues affecting incarcerated persons, including commenting on proposed regulations and legislation and presenting oral and written testimony. Collaborating with community groups and impacted peoples on issues affecting rights of incarcerated people.
