Job Title: Patent Prosecution and Litigation Associate Attorney

Job Overview: A well-established law firm is seeking an experienced Associate Attorney for its Patent Prosecution and Litigation Practice Group, specializing in either Electrical Engineering & Software or Mechanical Engineering. The role is focused on providing expert legal services related to patent prosecution, including drafting applications and litigation. Ideal candidates will have a strong foundation in technical fields such as mechanical or electrical engineering, coupled with the skills to navigate the complexities of intellectual property law.

Duties:

• Lead and manage patent prosecution matters, including application drafting and filing.
• Represent clients in patent litigation and dispute resolution.
• Prepare and prosecute patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
• Provide strategic counsel to clients on patent portfolios and intellectual property matters.
• Work closely with technical teams to analyze and interpret inventions.
• Conduct patent searches and patentability assessments.
• Draft legal opinions related to patent infringement, validity, and freedom-to-operate issues.
• Collaborate with colleagues across practice groups to support clients in IP-related matters.

Requirements:

• 3-6 years of experience in patent prosecution and litigation, with a focus on application drafting.
• Strong technical background in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or mathematics.
• USPTO registration is required.
• Active bar membership in South Carolina.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field (mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or mathematics).
• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Registered to practice before the USPTO.
• Bar membership in South Carolina.

Skills:

• Expertise in patent law, including prosecution and litigation.
• Proficient in drafting and reviewing patent applications.
• Strong understanding of intellectual property laws and regulations.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to analyze complex technical information and translate it into legal documents.
