Department Overview
 
Corporate Planning and FP&A serves as committed business partners to other Leaders and departments at Southwest Airlines, providing exceptional analytical support and financial guidance to ensure Southwest Airlines\u2019 prosperity.  The department aims to empower Southwest Airlines\u2019 decision makers through collaborative planning, analysis, and insights.

Team Overview
 
Southwest Airlines FP&A Internships span across several different Teams within the Finance Department. If selected, you will work full-time as a Team Member within one of the following areas: 

Enterprise-People Supply Chain Management and Fuel
The People, SCM and Fuel Team serves as business partners for the Leaders we support and provide well-rounding planning, forecasting, and financial analysis. Our work ensures that our Customer\u2019s budgets accurately reflect the current operating environment and that our Leaders have a clear understanding of trends in order to make well-informed decisions.
 
Enterprise \u2013 Properties and Facilities
The Properties and Facilities Team supports the Airport Affairs, Corporate Facilities, General Counsel, and Governmental Affairs departments.  The Team provides analytical, planning, and financial budgeting and forecasting support to these departments to enable efficient and profitable operations.
 
Ground Ops \u2013 The Ground Operations team supports all 100 ground stations SWA serves in addition to Cargo & Charters, Safety & Security, Provisioning and Customer Service & Support. The team is responsible for budgeting, forecasting and providing analysis on all headcount and operating expenses to support an efficient Operation.
 
Tech Ops \u2013 The Technical Operations team is responsible for monitoring the ~$2.0B annual operating and capital budget, mid-term and long range forecasting, as well as providing financial support for numerous contract negotiations. The Technical Operations Department consists of over 3,500 employees who are responsible for maintaining a fleet over 700 aircraft. This position will work closely with the Technical Operations Leaders, Supply Chain Management and Financial Accounting.
 
Analytics \u2013 The Analytics team is a business partner that works to unlock insights through efficient data-driven analysis. The work is typically cross-functional and supports our efforts to understand the drivers of demand on our resources (People, aircraft, facilities, technology, etc.).

Revenue Forecasting - The Revenue Forecasting team supports the development and tracking of a >$20B annual forecast of all streams of Southwest\u2019s operating revenue. We partner with Revenue Management, Network Planning, and Marketing to support the analysis of revenue and  regularly communicate with Investor Relations, Commercial Leadership, and Finance Leadership to ensure clear understanding of the current trends of our business and ensure sound decision making. 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Assist with modeling the financial impact of changes to our route network, flight schedule, fleet strategy, and product offering. Assist with identifying key financial industry metrics and modeling the relationship of these metrics to the financial performance of Southwest Airlines. Build new or improve upon existing FP&A financial and profitability reports by partnering with other commercial departments, such as Revenue Management, Network Planning, Finance, and Marketing. Assist with analyzing the performance and strategy of competitor airlines, and identifying the potential impact to Southwest.
Qualifications
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
 
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.  Must be at least 18 years of age.  Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986. 
 
EDUCATION:
 
 Progress towards degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Aviation Management,or related field. Minimum Junior level.  To be eligible must be currently enrolled as a full-time student (minimum 12 credit hours).  Maintained 2.75 or above GPA.  EXPERIENCE:
Graduate Level course work a plus.  Looking for an individual who is self-motivated.  Able to work with minimum guidance and professional in their conduct. 

 SKILLS/ABILITIES/KNOWLEDGE/WORK STYLE:
Must possess a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint.  Able to create basic financial models, analyses and graphs using Excel.  Able to use Word to write memos communicating the result of their work.  Able to use PowerPoint to build presentations for verbal communications.  Knowledge of how to arrive at quantitative solutions.  PLEASE BE PREPARED TO PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION (IF REQUESTED):
