Mathematica’s mission is to improve public well-being by bringing the highest standards of quality, objectivity, and excellence to bear in our work for our clients, which include federal, state, and local government agencies and private foundations.We are inviting survey analysts to join us in contributing to domestic health policy projects. Our current work includes a wide range of policy topics in health care service delivery and financing, quality measures, and health systems change. Example projects include:evaluating the implementation of Social Security Disability Insurance innovation initiatives aimed at improving earnings and job retention, improving health outcomes, and reducing costsconducting a large annual census of mental health and substance abuse treatment facilities across the country and publishing a resource bookletstudying the effects of multi-payer delivery system innovations on health care access, quality, and costsassessing the quality of care in publicly sponsored insurance programs like Medicaid and MedicareAs a survey analyst, you would join our staff of over 400 health research professionals. Many of these professionals have doctoral or master’s degrees and years of substantive experience in public policy, behavioral and social sciences, economics, and public health. They participate in key project activities, which vary by project and may include:Developing data collection materials such as survey instruments, interview protocols, interviewer training materials, operations manuals, quality control and data collection specificationsTraining interviewers and conducting pretest interviewsManaging telephone, web, mail and/or field data collection effortsSupporting senior staff in project leadership such as task planning and oversight, progress reporting, monitoring budget and subcontractor activity. Using MS Project and other tools to  monitor project activities to ensure that schedule and budget constraints are metParticipating in in-depth interviews, site visits or focus groups and supporting qualitative data collection effortsProviding technical assistance to state and federal health agencies or health care providers (for example,  by designing webinars or responding to questions from providers/stakeholders)Drafting client memos, issue briefs, chapters of reports, and proposals for new projectsAssisting with budget revisions and contract proposalsExhibiting initiative to take on new opportunities, further own professional development, and become an organizational leaderPosition Requirements: Master’s degree in a social science or related field plus some demonstrated survey research or related experience; or Bachelor’s degree in a social science or related field plus three to five years survey research or related experience; or a combination of equivalent education and work experience may be substituted for the above requirements.Familiarity and experience with data collection tools and methodsStrong analytic skills, including knowledge of quantitative and/or qualitative research methodsAbility to think criticallyExcellent oral and written communication skills; ability to write clear and concise technical memos and documentsDemonstrated organizational skills and careful attention to detailAbility to complete tasks on tight deadlines without compromising qualityFamiliarity and experience with standard MS packages, such as Excel, Access and WordAbility to deal tactfully and diplomatically with othersAbility to work both independently and collaboratively on teamsWillingness to travel to other locations as necessaryWillingness to be flexible with work hours and assignmentsSpanish, or other language fluency is a plusPlease attach your cover letter, resume, graduate and undergraduate transcripts (unofficial are acceptable), and contact information for three references.
