Desktop Support Specialist

The candidate interviews users to collect information about problem and leads user through diagnostic procedures to determine source of error. Conducts problem recognition, research, isolation, resolution and follow-up for user problems referring the most complex problems to supervisor or other technical staff. Installs or assists service personnel in installation of hardware and peripheral components such as monitors, keyboards, printers, and disk drives on user's premises. Identifies and replaces malfunctioning or inoperative equipment/components and performs repairs and preventative maintenance. Refers major hardware problems to appropriate party for correction. Loads specified software packages such as operating systems, word processing, or spreadsheet programs into computer. Updates defective or inadequate software packages. Upgrades hardware and software components as required. Consults with programmers to explain software errors or to recommend changes to programs. Logs and tracks calls and maintains history records and related problem documentation. Provides project status information to manager and/or users via voice mail, e-mail, or in person communication. Loads specified computer images, including operating systems into computer. Replaces/repairs defective or inadequate desktop computer hardware including, but not limited to, onboard memory, power supplies, and system boards. Maintains accurate physical computer inventory and reporting. Conducts desktop hardware hardening audits for compliance reporting. Communicates with software and hardware vendors to request service regarding complex problems and/or defective products. Performs network administrative tasks, as assigned. Desk side/field visits with users onsite and other local sites for hardware repair/replacements. Deployment and supports of Remote Computing devices such as laptops, tablets and iOS devices. Provides on-the-job training and assistance to less experienced workers.
