In addition, Ironwood Physicians, P.C. has 5 Urology offices who provide Urologic care in the East Valley.

Overview: Under the general guidance of Ironwood Physicians, PC (IWP) leadership, the In-house Corporate Legal Counsel prepares and reviews a variety of complex contracts and provides legal counsel, guidance and representation to the Company and its affiliated healthcare operations as requested on complex legal and operational issues. When necessary, this role may consult with outside legal counsel on litigation, investigations and other legal concerns.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Advise on healthcare operations, regulatory and compliance issues, corporate transactions, employment law, medical staff issues, contracting, and patient concerns.
  • Provide legal review and/or advice to IWP Board, Practice, and Senior Leadership; participates in the development of system policies and procedures; reviews contracts; and negotiates and facilitates transactions.
  • Consult with outside legal counsel in the performance of legal services as necessary.
  • Interface with corporate departments as needed to provide advice on legal issues.
  • In coordination with the Compliance Officer, participates with compliance investigations as needed; supervises the Compliance Committee
  • Facilitate the performance of periodic compliance risk-based assessments; review the content and performance of the Compliance Program on a continuing basis, and take appropriate steps to improve its effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership including risk management initiatives
  • Participates in and provides ongoing training and education in healthcare compliance, employment law, and contracting.
  • Maintains working relationships with all department personnel relative to the legal service function.
  • Contract Review
  • Uses negotiation skills, knowledge and experience to assist the company in amicably resolving disputes with third parties.
  • Prepare and interpret corporate documents, leases, real estate documents as needed.
  • Point of contact for malpractice carrier and any communications regarding physicians liability, litigation etc.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
  • Current license to practice law in the State of Arizona
     

Required Experience:

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in healthcare law, including but not limited to, contracting, HIPAA, Stark, employment law, fraud and abuse, healthcare regulatory compliance.
  • Preferred 3 years of Law firm experience.
  • Must effectively communicate, orally and in writing, complex information to audiences of varying levels of education, skill, and responsibility within the organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects at the same time, as well as the ability to stay focused on key business and operational deliverables.
  • Must possess a high level of organizational, analytical, problem-solving and communication skills with ability to tactfully communicate in sensitive situations.
