Personal Investor and Direct Channel Marketing Manager – Associate

The Personal Investor and Direct Channel Marketing organization helps drive iShares ETF usage among individual investors.  The team supports the sale of BlackRock products through online brokers (e.g., Fidelity, E*TRADE, TD Ameritrade, Schwab), and BlackRock’s broader efforts to engage with individual investors on a more direct basis to promote its iShares ETF line of products. This is accomplished through a variety of marketing activities such as advertising, email and direct mail marketing, content syndication, and sales support. The personal investor segment and brokerage partners are a key driver of growth for the business.

Responsibilities

The Marketing Manager is responsible for driving and supporting BlackRock’s marketing activities with Fidelity as a key strategic partner for BlackRock, as well as with other direct channel partners. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Advertising (e.g., cobranded digital banners, retargeting, paid search, ads in partner publications): work closely with the advertising and media teams on creative execution, digital landing pages, reporting and analytics, as well as quality control

Website management: work with web team to create new web pages or make changes to existing pages and to measure impact / effectiveness

Content and syndication: identify and prioritize partner content needs, contribute to content development, ensure BlackRock content is syndicated broadly across suitable partners

Sales and event / webinar support: develop and regularly maintain sales presentations and other sales materials as well as event marketing support (e.g., securing speakers, managing physical event presence where applicable)

In addition, the position will be involved in executing personal investor marketing activities, including our email marketing program, which is a key distribution method for iShares content. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Content

Content creation: help develop content that resonates within each segment and platform (this may include writing original content, editing existing pieces, working with internal and external agencies to develop videos, infographics, etc.); help curate and leverage content created around the firm

Content distribution: work with Digital (email and website), Media (paid; owned social), PR, and other teams to distribute content via paid placement, earned media,  and across owned properties (including creating landing pages on ishares.com and improving the ETF education section on ishares.com)

Improve overall content effectiveness based on data and insights

Email marketing

Help plan and execute monthly emails and special campaigns (including content selection, headline and body copy, segmentation)

Manage acquisition of new email addresses, balancing cost and engagement

Ensure flawless execution, working with Digital, content, media, and Compliance teams

Improve overall email program effectiveness (e.g., new acquisition channels, segmentation, personalization, list hygiene, content) and impact measurement

Metrics and reporting: help define, measure, and report out on the most relevant metrics of success in different environments

Budget and invoice management and reconciliation for content marketing activities

The role requires the ability to function well across business and functional boundaries. In particular, a successful candidate will have a solid understanding of both active (BlackRock mutual funds) and passive (iShares ETFs) products and will collaborate effectively across a complex and highly matrixed organization, including Sales, Brand and Advertising, Media, Digital (email and web), Product Marketing, Customer Insights (market research, analytics), Social Media, PR, Legal and Compliance. The role also requires the ability to interface with external agencies and other third party marketing services providers

Desired candidate characteristics

A solid understanding of and interest in the asset management business across both active and passive approaches

Familiarity with the U.S. investment management landscape, in particular online brokerages

Proficiency across a range of marketing disciplines, such as digital advertising, content marketing, email / direct marketing, and marketing support for Sales

Ability to write and edit content, and to direct the work of external agencies

An analytical mindset / ability to work with numbers

A positive, can-do attitude; comfort with a team approach

A self-starter approach with the ability to multi-task and manage own workload across competing priorities

Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with flexibility regarding changes in priorities and tasks

Excellent oral and written communications skills

The presence to interact with senior contacts at partner firms and within BlackRock

Excellent Excel and PowerPoint skills

Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a related role
