Definition and Primary Objective:

Responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for all students, clients, staff, and visitors while supporting the therapeutic mission of the agency; Responds quickly to incidents; Acts as an incident commander in critical situations as needed; Ensures investigations are conducted on reports of serious incidents and/or threats; Maintains compliance with regulatory authorities, and  supervises Cincinnati Police Department detail officers.  This position is also responsible for the provision of staff/student/client training and education; and for building relationships with staff, students, law enforcement personnel and the general community.

Training

  • In conjunction with program staff, develop a formal on-boarding program for Cincinnati Police Department detail officers
  • With the Training Department, develop and conduct training for staff and clients
  • Participate in relevant training for the position including the agency’s behavioral management and crisis response models (Teaching Family and CPI)

Quality Assurance and Effectiveness

  • Ensure safety and risk management audits, reports, and activities are carried out on a routine basis at all agency locations.
  • Maintain necessary documentation of all security-related activities and drills
  • Thoroughly investigate all incidents coming to his/her attention during their time of responsibility and makes appropriate reports
  • Develop and/or maintain security related policy and practices
  • Support Human Resources on oversight and management of activities related to workplace violence
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements

Safety & Security

  • Regularly inspect/oversee the inspection of campus buildings including locking systems, building alarms, scanning equipment, camera surveillance, etc.  Develop recommendations for security changes and upgrades
  • Participate in and oversee student check-in procedures
  • Assist staff, when requested, with addressing students who have violated school safety policies.
  • Participate in and/or lead appropriate emergency response preparedness activities/drills/exercises; including Cincinnati Police Department detail officers when appropriate

Leadership

  • Assist Cincinnati Police Department (CPD) detail officers for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities; oversee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage; manage CPD timecards
  • Work to ensure CPD officers are aligned with agency philosophical practices
  • Conduct periodic evaluation of the assigned officers to ensure they are complying with protocol and are a good fit for the environment.
  • Serve on the Threat Assessment Team

Fiscal Responsibility

  • Develop and monitor budget items related to safety and security

Internal and External Collaboration

  • Liaison with the Cincinnati Police Department to enhance communication and improve coordination of efforts/training of site officers
  • Interact with other agencies (e.g., law enforcement, community professionals, etc.) for the purpose of communicating and/or receiving information regarding situations that may affect safety on the campus
  • Use a strong customer service approach with students, staff, visitors and guests 
  • Develop and implement communication processes related to safety and security

Minimum Education, Experience and Other Skill Requirements:

  • The position requires successful completion of a law enforcement academy program.  An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in law enforcement, criminal justice or related field is preferred.
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience in the law enforcement field, with semi-active duty on the Cincinnati Police force preferred
  • Must have 3 years of management or supervisory experience
  • Experience with at-risk populations and/or school safety preferred
  • Must be able to be on-call for emergencies, and as needed on occasional evenings/weekends for security needs 
  • Must have the skills to appropriately intervene in emergency or potentially critical situations, diffuse potentially volatile situations, and communicate effectively with students, staff and the general public
  • Must possess minimum technical skills including familiarity with Microsoft Windows and ability to use standard Microsoft Office applications.

     

Work Environment:

Exposed to a combination of office, school, outdoor and shop environments. Occasionally exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes and noise.
